Negotiate the price of the new vehicle prior to talking about a trade, that way you know exactly what you're getting for your trade and paying for the new vehicle.

Well i just traded my 2018 Jeep jl rubicon for a 2020 Trd Pro in Army green. I am in Canada so not sure if it apply s but always check at least 3 different dealer do your homework online get them to agree on a discount on the truck then talk trade. I got the best deal from a dealer i have never dealt with before and my worst offer was from a dealer i have bought a few cars from. Do your research online go in knowing more then your salesmen does and you will do fine

I am glad you are happy with your deal, but it was not as big a savings as you made it out to be. You made $400 .....more money for upgrades. For me, Carmax is 45 minutes from my house and the two closest Toyota dealers are within 15 mins. I wouldn't make the trek for $400. Now, if it were $1000, I would do it.

I have done private party and trade-in. It all depends on the vehicle and how much hassle you want to put up with. Everyone has their price.

IMHO, do your research, separate the selling and buying experience, make sure the truck respectable before taking it the dealership(s), be confident, be prepared to walk, and accept that you will very likely lose money.

And can't agree more with @hiPSI, life is short

Don't be butt hurt and don't downplay. Everyone makes a bad presumption now and then. Cheers!

I really hope your new 20 will take you to retirement. But in the same paragraph you say you wouldn’t be upgrading if it weren’t for the extras they added. Sorry to break it to you my friend but the future will always hold more and more extras. The 20 upgrades are the result of competition forcing them. And with all the new and future competition in the mid size off-road segment coming, I would expect the upgrades to compound at a much faster rate going forward. Will you still be happy when that happens???

Yes I know how it work. But I won’t be buying a 4runner Pro when the day comes they change the engine and transmission.
    What I’m getting.
    Fox suspension
    Sunroof
Bigger audio screen with Apple CarPlay
    TRD exhaust
I’m in a good situation to trade my 17 Pro in now. I don’t need to put much money out to upgrade to the 2020. I have the same situation with my corvette. Had a C5 Z06 for years. Was planning on keeping it. Wife talked me into getting the last year 2019 Z06. Same thing I don’t need the C8 coming out. My car is already a beast. I’m about numbers and I don’t like car payments so I won’t be jumping up to a newer Pro. Yes these car dealers make it really hard to say no for the new technology but you need to know when to draw the line.
