They're just keeping us loonies in a convenient bin. Take away this thread, and we start to infect other threads...

My Junior English teacher in High School had us do a SIX page essay on Lord of the Flies. I hated that book as well. I'm pretty sure I made mine 3/4 about the conch and what Spongebob ripped off the book.

Pfff. The guy has raised the rent on me every year for the last 6 years. I’ve payed on time since the day I signed the lease. I fix all the shit he refuses to fix in my apartment. Yeah. Guy’s a slum lord. If sticking it to him if just this one time makes me privileged. So be it. More petty really. My credit score is well passed 700. You don’t do that by buying mods over paying bills. You’re also what’s wrong with today’s Uber sensitive society. Everything triggers people these days. You’ll never pull that stick out of your ass cause you’re so uptight

I dunno either. Not even sure what lesson we were supposed to learn from it. I think the only thing I think about it now is "oh man, high school english almost destroyed my desire to read"

I never read any of that stuff in HS. Didn’t read most lit until later in life.

Yeah LOTF was required reading for us circa 2000. Some of the other books were great, but even the great ones suffer when you're forced to read them, and then analyze them into a pulp.

    Here’s the synopsis:

Lord of the flies: ‘children are bad’
    Animal Farm: ‘commies are bad’
Diary of a Young Girl (Anne Frank): ‘Nazis are bad’
To Kill a Mockingbird: ‘racism is bad’
    The Outsiders: ‘gangs are bad’
The Catcher in the Rye: ‘running away from home is bad’
Charlie and the Chocolate factory: ‘capitalism is bad’

Breakfast of Champions: ‘Kurt Vonnegut is a fucking genius’. I thank my grade 10 English teacher for allowing us to read this.

I had a progressive English teacher. The class took place in a portable erected in the parking lot of the automotive shop. He used to say “since we aren’t actually in the school, the normal rules don’t apply”.

A great man. Treated us as equals, and poisoned our young minds with many divergent ideas.

No......close.....but no Mork from Ork. He was just a mild-mannered dude in a cardigan. I’ll refrain from saying his name in case some fuckwit was traumatized by reading Vonnegut and wants to go after him 31 years later.
