I'm obviously far from the highest (in fact might be the lowest) rank.

23 years E-8 Airborne Infantry Retired thank the LORD. Run a range at Bragg, never thought I'd work at Range Control but the soup line sucks!

Still get to be around troops which is cool, most of the time.

Knees, ankles, back, and shoulders keep reminding me that parachutes are made by the lowest bidder!

... ^^^ ... keep copies of your medical records and file a claim with the VA if you have problems later. Knees, backs and hips tend to bother you guys later in life.

How right you are! I was lucky enough to do my last year of active duty around several Retired guys who lead me thru the process. Other wise I would have had no idea about these types of benefits. Thanks for the response!

I assume that you are retired as a "jumper", and have been in combat or have a CAR ... (I think that is what the Army calls them, Combat Action Ribbon)

With that said, should your disabilities get to 100% (easy with bad hips & knees & back) ... you can go for full CRSC and get both FULL DoD and VA pay (and VA pay is tax free).

FWIW ... I get 40% for my back (helicopter crash) and another 110% for misc. injuries and PTSD, all tax free.

However, your basic VA rate maxes out at 100% + any special compensation, i.e. ... SMC rates & etc.

If your knees, back & hips go out from (service connected) "jumping" ... you could be well over 100% (even with "VA Math", & "VA Math" makes it tougher).

You have brought up some good points, I'll have to look at CRSC. I don't know anything about it.

This is an area that very few on active duty know anything about, most troops only recieve little to no information until they out process as part of the reitrement services.
Your comment about the VA math to arrive at an individuals rating is like trying to decipher the theory of relativity!

I think the DOD is conducting a major Disservice to our Vets, when they leave the military regardless of whether they retire, or exit after their enlsitment!
