Don't worry. He'll tell you all about what a badass fighter pilot he was. You will have to wait until after he uses his hoveround to push past Golden Corral patrons to get his free meal waving his VA card for 100% PTSD. Right next to the never deployed PFC with his stripper wife and 6 kids from other fathers.

Haha. You have to give the guy some credit, flying around with people launching telephone poles that fly at over two times the speed of sound at you takes some balls.

Finally pinning E-7 after I go to SLC next month. The Army's STEP program really fucked me over....I made the 2018 list and I'm just now going so hopefully this new system will figure out a better way of doing it.

Guessing they still aren’t exhausting the list prior to releasing the new one? I’ll have to look up the STEP program. Don’t think it existed prior to my retirement, curious now. Retired out of Schofield in 15’

Also- congrats! 7 is a big transition, especially in a line company. Still a semi fun position though.

Edit: Mixed feelings about STEP. In theory it makes sense, but that is heavily dependent on slots available. I was lucky and had a PSG that was able to pull an ANCOC (now SLC) for me when I was a non-promotable SSG. That was only possible with Iraq and Afghanistan deployments going on. Caught a slot between deployments. Even with Korea switching to unit rotations, I’m assuming any career progression school is over inundated at this point. That’s if they are even allowing non-promotables to attend.

So is it like the Sergeant Majors Academy now? Make the list, get school slot, graduate, then get a sequence number? Based off your comments, it sounds like it.

She runs. What more can I ask for?
E-4. Everyone called me Spec9/CSM (Command Specialist Major).
Was in for eight years and never picked up points. Wasn't looking like it'd ever happen so I moved on.

So sequence numbers don't really matter for when you promote at all anymore. For SFC you just need to get SLC and you are promoted the next month. Sequence numbers now are more for "when" you go to SLC. With the new update to the board, again sequence numbers won't matter it will be an OML and you'll promote based off where you sit at that list.

You can still get a walk on slot, only if your non promotable. It is impossible for us to get one being promotable, which makes absolutely no sense to me.

Thanks for the congrats! I can finally get paid for the job I've been doing for over a year and a half.

Apparently it won’t count. I’ve heard it both ways though so I’m hoping it actually will count and I’ll only have one more year left as a PSG. If not my CSM already said he will keep me there.

That’s kinda what I figured. It was mixed opinions at best when I pinned. Plus, don’t rush to get a 1SG position. There were more downs then ups, at least in my experience (3rd Bde).

I have no desire to be a 1SG haha, I actually had no desire to be a PSG. If I could have stayed a SL or TL for my entire career, but gain pay grades I would be so much happier . I'm also sorry you were in 3BDE, but both are the same on this island. My BN is on red cycle right now, and have it again in February, I don't know how that is possible, but it is the 25th dimension.

Like most things with 25th... they are so far from the flag pole, it goes to the BDE and DIVs head. CSM Jones (former Div CSM) was a perfect example of it. Dude emailed 1SGs direct, bypassing all leadership in between just to tell all of us there was a MC accident and there for we had 3 hours left until cob to conduct MC inspections on everyone in our unit. Not current, within the month of quarter... that day. Few other examples, but that was the kind of nonsense they were up to then.

@shane100700 I know exactly who you're talking about because now he is the PACOM CSM. All PSG and above got pulled into Smith Theater not too long ago and got bitched at for 2ish hours for kids going to BLC (former WLC). My entire thought process during the whole rant was, "If the Soldier is going to their first level of NCOES and fails to pass the PT test/layout/get an account/insert excuse here then why are we going to promote them?". But instead it was us getting chastised for "setting them up for failure". I just came off the trail before here and I have already told my wife I'd go back to being a DS in a heartbeat than deal with the BS here.

Jesus... he’s still alive? He did the same for us when he was Div, only it was guys we were forced to send because there should never be any open slots. So it got to the point where we tried to argue everyone but dirt bags had been. Then, why did the dirt bags fail... it’s a whole other world over there. All self imposed hardship on the leaderships part too.
