Read over that very carefully before you sign. A difference THAT vast is pretty odd for better coverages. They are usually pretty close. 1300 bones is a LOT of dough off.

    .

I listen to Clark Howard (on radio and watch him on CNN) from ClarkHoward.com and he rates USAA as # 1 ...
... and AMICA (Mutual Ins. Co.) as a # 2.

GEICO used to be good, but in last 5-10 years they have gone to hell and Progressive has come back up again. Some companies run in cycles that their profits influence.

I am with Met Life (no claims) and will probably switch to USAA soon.

On an interesting note on claims .... this big subdivision was hit by a giant hail storm 18 months ago and all of the insurance companies came out of the wood work.

I did an unofficial count and how they handled their claims with roofers.

ALL houses were hit and it was up to homeowner file a claim.

The worst company by far (denying almost all claims on 1st attempt) was Allstate. They were horrible and Allstate used to be great with claims 20 years ago.

Not far behind ... second worse was State Farm.

Best to pay the roofing claims = USAA & AMICA ...

IMO ... you get what you pay for in insurance (when claims arise). AMICA is a Mutual Co and you get dividend checks back when they have higher profits with lower claims payouts.

FWIW ... as a general practice, when the main management and/or profit margins changes at some companies, the companies themselves change ... and this happens in 7 to 12 year cycles in that industry. However, USAA & AMICA have a more strict corporate structure that the CEOs can NOT easily change (without much difficulty).

PS ... Not telling you do do this as state laws are different but .... ANYTIME, I talk to a bank, insurance company or a credit card company, it goes on tape (chip) and I keep that info for several years. This has saved my ass big time , when differences in remembering conversations have come up. ... :D ......... Even writing a nice letter with "exact wording" from conversation tape will give them a hint that you are ready for a cat fight if necessary. A big insurance company lied and tried to screw me on a claim years ago ... but I had the claims rep. on tape when she lied .. game over .. no cat fight was necessary then.

I had Geico, droped them after I got a pretty good ticket and they jacked up my rate too over 300 a month. Now I got Allstate and pay less than half that :)

I used to have USAA, until I found out Gieco was way cheaper, so ended up going with the lizard.

I have heard stories that geico sucks after you get into an accident though... but no idea if that is true.

I had State Farm for 15+ yrs and after some issues I switched to Amica ~3 yrs ago. Amica was 10%+ cheaper not counting the dividends for the same coverage. We've had 2 claims with Amica and no problems, I felt they treated us fairly
