OP, take off your flowmaster, get your stock airbox back and use a drop in filter.

    then run URD's MAF Calibrator.

bout all you can do besides add boost. Chips are crap.
    as are buttdynos.

Less restriction by better filter media. However, just like the K&N, lots of heat soak. Trade is not in favor of Awesomely labled "HAI". :D

I'm pretty sure every aftermarket intake makes a difference in the sounds of your aftermarket exhaust. Wolfpack was asking if the "cai" pictured was yours and proceeded on commenting on the "cai". If it's not the one pictured post up a pic of it and give some info on it. Doesn't sound like too many people here have heard of yours.

Say what you will of the OEM intake, but it is pretty good as is. Maybe you should think about dropping the OEM one back in and going with a better filter, say an AFE Pro Dry-S filter. I've run the volant and the first gen TRD cai and both have delivered on sound, but have failed to deliver on any "noticeable gains"

Judging from how long wolfpack has been a member on here, one can deduct that he's not just getting on here to make himself sound smart. If you proceed to continue bashing people who are trying to help, you will see less and less people attempt to answer any of your questions.

Haha oh the constant joys and laugh from the threads that get off on this topic. I wish i had a dime for ever thread about more noise = more power hahaha but you gotta give the OP some slack im sure alot of us were like that before reading around on here. the sellers make you think that their product is the best.

Here is the problem with the word "CHIP". People have a vague idea of what that really is. Due to mean reasons. Word of mouth, video games, and "performance chips" that were for a earlier model of electronically controlled vehichle.

These days, you are now in the realm of: Reflashes, hand held programmers, "piggy-back" ECUs (inline intercepting ECUs), and Stand-alone ECUs. (Add more if I missed any)

Our ECUs have EPROM. You can write it, but not re-write it. There are no hand held porgrammers, such as BullyDog, to be able to tune the ECU because of that fact. So we are left with wire in units, or units that have factory style plugs to make them Plug N Play. That, as of now, only applies to '05-'08 ECUs. '09+, have to still be wired into, until plugs are available to market. UniChip has them, and URD is working on making their own.

So there you have it. Available for Wire-In. Many. I will list a few: AEM, ProEFI, Motech, URD MAF/MAP Cals, Map-ECU2 or 3 (mainly 3 now), APR X-1 ( no longer in production but still some are available), URD UCON.

    EDIT***:

Are they worth it? Vague at best. Depends on what you are trying to do with you engine, performance wise. How much control you need, the quality of the tuning device. As you go higher on the totem pole of things you want, the price goes up as well.

My ProEFI with custom made plug n play extension harness, 5 bar MAP sensor, 150 PSI fuel pressure sensor, AFR sensor, and tuning cord, was $3200.

Was it worth it???? For the control, and power, and plan of my build, Hands down yes. For you, most likely not. You have to find something equatable to your needs.

A supercharged 4.0L will get better mileage if you can keep your foot out of it. Just cruising down the road, they will do better on fuel but you have to run premium grade. You will never save enough on fuel to offset the initial cost of the supercharger though so buying one just for that reason is a terrible investment. URD (Underdog Racing Development) and TRD both make superchargers the for Tacoma.

Yep, based on all the other responses, I must be horribly wrong...

As others have said, most of the aftermarket cold air intakes are less effective than the stock intake. To call the stock intake junk is incredibly ignorant and misinformed. To add insult to injury, your Flowmaster isn't doing anything for you either... Spend some time reading through the performance and tuning section on here and you'll get a lot of good ideas and proven results (not butt dynos and stated gains based on noise level).
