Love my truck. For what we paid for these things we had plenty of options in our price range. Could't imagine driving anything else.

Hey come on across the valley to Sonora. With all the rain we've had, the smoothest roads around here are the ones with no asphalt left on them. I think it will be years before things get back to their normal Bad road conditions.

With that said...I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Love my Tacoma. It is the only vehicle I have ever owned where other owners stop to talk about our common vehicles. Last night I walked out of BestBuy and saw a truck with the same options parked almost in front of me and still had its lights on so I assumed the owner just left. 2 seconds later the guy I just walked past comes back and we talked Tacomas for 5-10 minutes before we both went on our way. (I did my first sit in and interior evaluation in his exact truck which was kinda cool meeting the guy who ended up buying it.).

I haven't had many of the issues others have had with the exception of it not liking 6th gear on the hwy in a strong headwind. My truck is TSB listed for a flash so that is my ONLY issue so far (will do the tsb at first service time) and I am not sure any other vehicle wouldn't be the same in that same wind short of a low to the ground super aero car.

Now the bed rail tie downs are the bomb and with the rubber mat it just makes sense and makes me wonder why no one else has done this. Bed liners are so useless in comparison and one of the reasons I went Tacoma. Some details just make sense. The small issues have aftermarket support. Hondo garage knobs, Redline tuning hood struts and so on.

I agree completely with this. There are so many positives with this truck, I think we all get a bit spoiled. YES it's an expensive vehicle, but lets be honest, almost every other truck on the road is. It really hits me after driving other peoples' jeeps, chevy's, and fords, just how much I like my toyota. The looks, man it looks great. It's aggressive, yet keeps the great Tacoma lines that the 2nd gens had. It's small, yet beefy. It feels tighter, and the build quality feels better. The interior just feels solid to me, the truck feels more planted on the road in comparison with say a jeep grand cherokee that I was driving. There are times when the roads are wet that I just felt uncomfortable in the jeep, and other cars, where the Taco seems confident. The drivetrain is not as peppy as others in it's class, but if you really get on it and get the RPM's going, the truck definitely has balls, which is all I ask for in a N/A truck without turbo's or anything. MPG's are ok, I average between 19-22 on my commutes depending on how I drive, which is pretty decent considering I put on bigger wheels and tires, removed the air dam, and bolted on some heavy nfab sidesteps. That being said there are some legitimate complaints, and I think in order to be fair, as well as truly appreciate a vehicle for what it is they should be discussed.

One of my main concerns was/is the engine. It is a bit noisy (and not in a good way), but so are many of the newer engines, and I've read just as many complaints on other forums about the same issues. What I've come to find out, is that it's the nature of the beast with the high pressure fuel pump that sits atop of the engine, the injector cleaning cycles that have been engineered into the 2GR. I know I would rather have a noisy engine from toyota than a perfectly quiet chrysler.

There are the ongoing complaints about the sluggish feeling the truck has at the lower rpm's, and I get that. It also doesn't help that the sluggishness is coupled with a transmission that can't seem to find a gear to stay in at highway speeds. HOWEVER, once I had the transmission TSB performed, some of that disappeared. I felt more pep down low on the powerband, and the transmission shifted buttery smooth with no delays. Is the drivetrain perfect? Of course not. But it's more than adequate, which was not the case when I owned my 4 cylinder '08 Taco. That fucker was embarrassingly, frustratingly, annoyingly, slow.

There were various complaints that out of the factory Toyota was sending out our trucks low on ATF, low on Diff fluid, and many other nit picks. I had mine inspected and topped off before taking delivery of the truck (thanks to this forum), however I really don't think that these issues posed any quantifiable concern. Just nit picks.

All in all, I love my truck. Is it perfect? No. But I think that if you look closely, or even bought any of the competition's vehicles you'd find some of the same concerns. My faith resides in toyota for the long term longevity of the vehicle. In my opinion the same can't be said of their competition.

Engine still bogging down when pressing the accelerator and shift problems after the TSB.

Also; Drove Philly to DC last week end - 3 Hrs. Went to pass someone doing 50. Had a car in left lane about 50->70 yards behind me. When I tried to pass the motor bogged down for a couple seconds, then downshifted too low. Engine revved up very high, didn't shift up, at that point the car behind me was very close. Fortunately I didn't make any forward progress, so I was able to drop back behind the same vehicle. Then I could smell something burning. Not sure this vehicle is safe for the highway.

I've had my Tacoma for 14 months. 35000+ miles, I drive 80+ miles a day. I avg over 22mpg I drive like a grandpa( hey I am a grandpa) I love this truck! Had a Tundra prior to this and loved it too but 14 mpg was killing me. I've done simple mods plasti dipped the rims, painted the dash surround blue and tinted the windows and some other little things. And like others say on here I tend to take the long way everywhere I go cause I love driving this truck!

I love my truck from the time I took delivery. When I knew, it was right was driving to work with the windows down, sunroof open and the rear window open (seriously…power window, the coolest thing on the truck). I was on the freeway doing 85 MPH with Van Halen’s “Panama” CRAAAANKKKED.

It’s like a convertible that can go in the dirt.

    I smiled a little.:amen:
Now realize I’m at my desk at work. :annoyed:
