This thread is the best thing to happen since I bought my truck.

On the advice of a friend with a 2nd gen I came here all excited about my new ride. Then a few people who poison every thread got me down. The endless complaints and whining got so bad I almost logged off to never return. Then the challenge coin thread got me excited again. Some people must have got arrested or got a life and things got quiet on the complaint front and I started enjoying the forum again.

Then I saw this thread and hesitantly clicked.... it wasn't a troll. It was a thread about people who actually like their truck. It is good to see. It doesn't downplay the issues some are having but instead we get to praise the good things that made each of us buy our individual vehicles. My hope is those of us with positives can drown out the negative. We can complain and share information on our experiences good and bad but let's not forget the good and let it die under the heap of poor experiences.

My truck looks good rides good but has a terrible drive train. That's my honest opinion.

It's bizzare to me to see complaints about the ride quality of the truck. My SR rides very good. Better than my wife's small SUV with Indep suspension. I don't know if the SR is smoother than the OR and SR5 or if some people on here expect it to be a luxury car.

I drive down 3 miles of rocky rutted dirt every day and it feels fine on it, doesn't bounce across the washboard, feels planted even when I'm going a bit too fast for the curves. Completely different than my old Ranger which got sideways or floated across the rough stuff with the suspension unloaded.

So this thread finally turned into all the shit people hate about their third gen? I hadn't even posted a single complaint in it yet.

Doesn't every thread on TW? Welcome aboard Smitty!

And oh yeah, to be clear- like my Tacoma alot- not a race car, not a SUV, not a family sedan, but a truck. Best truck I have ever owned- happy every day to drive it- no real complaints.

Me too. I waited 12 years to get into another Taco. I love it. Are their things that need support from Toyota? You bet. No different from ANY OTHER CAR ON THE ROAD.

Most of the people I talk to that don't like their Tacoma come from owning fords, chevys, Rams ect... they like the way the Tacoma looks and decide to jump ship. And after a few weeks of driving it, they miss the Cadillac/floating ride of their big trucks. Tacoma is an acquired taste. I never bought my first Tacoma for a "luxurious" ride. I bought it for reliability, looks, and functionality. I've owned tacomas my whole life. I know what they are suppose to ride like, I know they still have some issues, and I know that their issues are a lot easier than most every truck. Hell, dodge owners know when they buy a dodge that at 100k miles they are going to have to rebuild the transmission. Ford owners knew that a head gasket was something that could go anytime. If I need to pull heavy equipment on a gooseneck, I'm not going to buy a Tacoma and complain about its towing ability, And I'm not going to expect my wife's Honda Pilot to be an off-road machine. It has an intended purpose, and a Tacoma does its purpose pretty stinking good. I love my new 2017, just as I loved my 99,2000, and 2005.

That maybe true but the ride is not what I'm unhappy, it's the constant shifting and lack of any power below 3k rpm. This truck is under geared for the horsepower and torque the motor has.

I'm not sure about the early 3rd gens, mine is a 17 built in December of 16. Mine doesn't have shift issues that I notice. As far as low end torque, from a stand still, when I get on the gas it goes pretty good. It's not as peppy as my 2nd gen but it does enough for me. When running down the road, yes... you have to give it Enough gas to down shift to the appropriate gear. The only thing I notice it does that I don't like, when starting up a grade it doesn't down shift on its own like I would like. I have to give it gas to drop to the right gear. But oh well. Their was stuff I didn't like about my 2nd gen that my 3rd does good and vise versa.

To each their own, this truck isn't up to my standards and I'm going to get rid of it. It's a shame to Toyota could have had a nice truck if they would have put something with a little torque in this pos. My wife's Nissan Altima has more power and it's a 4 cylinder. There is no way this truck has the hp and torque Toyota claims it has.

Someone in another thread had a valid point about the truck's default being "econ" mode and ECT being what sould have been default. May be the reason us MT drivers are satisfied with our trucks.

How does your truck feel in ECT mode?

Glad I bought MT, and am happy that its regeared to 4.88 to handle my 285s, full set of steel skids, and sliders.
I did like it when it was stock, but now I don't like my tacoma, I love my tacoma.

I like mine. I think i hate it sometimes because of the howling (not from a diff), inconsistent mpg, weird squeaks, and random hardshifts every few weeks. but then every time i park the thing and walk away, i rubberneck just to catch another look.

Go re-evaluate your standards. I call bull shit on the my wife's Altima has more power.n I came from a 4 banger yota and this has more power. Take your high standards and go check out the ridgeline.
