Aisin is a member of the Toyota group of companies and makes almost every Toyota transmission (with some rare exceptions). As for how much Toyota is involved in the original design process or manufacturing, that varies. There are some transmissions that share a common design and are manufactured by both Toyota and Aisin (recently the U660E and U760E for example). Aisin does supply other manufacturers (Nissan, Mazda, GM, Chrysler, Porsche to name a few), but only for select vehicles as opposed to Toyota, where Toyota actually develops the transmissions with Aisin and uses them in almost every vehicle.

For the 2016+ Tacoma, Aisin manufactures the automatic and manual transmissions for all models.

    Aisin Fun Fact:
They recommend a transmssion fluid flush every 2 years/20,000 km (12,500 mi).

Unreal how Toyota says the Tacoma transmission is good for 100,000 miles with Lifetime fluid , yet their affiliate company ( Aisn ) says every two years .or 20k
Aisn dropped the service interval from 30k down to 20k . They use to recommend 30k about 5 years ago
I dont blame Aisn . All alluminum valve body wears out very quickly

Well the picture on the PDF tells the story, if your fluid looks dark like that, change it. However when I worked as a tech I rarely saw fluid that dark even after 100,000 miles, except in something that worked really hard. And I’m pretty sure there is a more aggressive change schedule in the manual for extreme duty. I NEVER saw fluid that dark after 12,000 miles. I think that PDF was made by their marketing department.

I may be completely wrong here, but doesn't Aisin make dodge's upper end transmission?

    Could be...just relaying the message.
Playing devil's advocate though; a similar marketing argument can be made for Toyota's change interval.

That sounds about right. I've put tons of miles on all the TOYOTA vehicles I've owned. That included one manual, and never replaced any ATF fluid or even add any ATF to any of them.

Last one I traded was a 13yr T4R with almost 200k miles on the clock, that worked like a Swiss watch. I plan on treating this '16 Taco the same way.

And the plan is change the ATF fluid in 15-20yrs or 300-400k miles If and when the need should arise to rebuild the transmission.

    Cheers!
