My results were mostly within 1-1.5mpg of each other, overall. This is between VR, KDM7, KDMPro, and Nexus+P.

For best shifting AND MPG? None.

    Best shifting: Nexus+P
    Best MPG: Valley Runner

I do drive a Scion xB 2006 that gets 35mpg (keeping this car as a commuter) but still would like to get the best I can out of the Tacoma also.

They are ok but no matter what you it’s still a truck. Nothing is going to make a big difference in mpg’s. Keep it well maintained don’t lift it and put on bigger tires. Don’t add any extra unnecessary weight with aftermarket stuff. That’s really about all you do. There are some little things people claim to help a bit but it’s not a major difference. They already run pretty close to the best efficiency your going to get out of it stock. Best thing you can do in my opinion is leave it that way.

I can second this. My TRDOR 4x4 will get around 24-25 on a good day in the summer given 60 MPH average and flat ground. More typically I get 21-24 at 70 MPH with some hills. Winter decreases it quite a bit too.

Only “mods” are wheels (light) on stock tires, bed cover, grill ect. No lift, will keep the chin strap.
I bought a vf tuner so I can try out different tunes and find the best of shifting, power and fuel mileage.

    Stock and staying that way
Accelerate slow, keep the speed around 60, coast to a stop as much as safe and don’t idle for long periods of time.

Idling may be what hurts me. Idle a lot at the gym before I go in. Hard to stay under 60 on the interstate lol

    ^^^^…..that.

Now I do live in completely flat central Florida, traffic is however considerable. I’ve been able to get a lifetime average of just under 21, 20.8 to be exact, with probably 65 city, 35 hwy over the 21k miles on my 19 2wd sport. No mods but a tonneau, stock tire/wheel size.

Roll to stops (saves brake wear too). Truck is heavy and will roll a long way and hold its speed for a while. Keep it under 70, truck is like a brick traveling through the air, it’s not an F16.

Those have been my methods to get that mileage, nothing more.

Got to recommend the kdmaxx pro tune man just got it about a month ago and honestly is night and day difference, mpg's did go up for me so I now average about 16-18 on the freeway, never gonna be a camry or something but I was getting 12 before and the shifting was horrendous pre tune

    Tires and lift = -2mpg
    Remove air dam = - .5mpg
    Roof rack = -2mpg
    Armour + Cap = -1mpg
    Winter blend +ethanol = - .5 mpg

= -6 mpg off the bat

sweet spot is keeping < 2k rpm, keep under that and train your foot to feather in and out

I sure hope this is true for me. I drive just over 100 miles round trip for work and I’d love to see those numbers when my new truck gets here.

I commute 90 miles per day so I'm not far off from you. Skinny pedal control really makes a difference and cruise control is your friend. Also, don't forget that you'll have reduced MPG during the break-in period, but it'll get better.

Agreed on the skinny pedal and the cruise control. The drive is definitely worth the living “away”. The Wife has a 22 4Runner TRDOR and it has never seen north of 20 and hovers around 18. But, she does more stop and go city driving than I do. Mine is either State Hwy or Interstate depending on my route. I’ve found that 60-65 is the sweet spot on my 03. With fuel prices gone crazy and the State Patrol wearing out my routes, I’ve been getting better mileage than normal lately

I agree as per lift, wheels and big tires, weight BUT I am sure with the proper tune it can be increased keeping everything else stock.

Tune is better for mpg, period.
Tires and weight are the problem.
    Gears + tires…okay mileage 16-21

    stock setup plus tune…I can’t imagine …

The only current plans I have are a cap and light bar. I intend to keep stock tire size. I know the cap won’t help milage but it is a necessity.
