I have searched through the forums and have not seen a lot of info on something we all need in our trucks - Emergency Assistance Kits. While this may not be the most exciting topic I figured I would tap into the well of knowledge here on TW to get some ideas because I am likely the least creative person on this forum. In the past I just carried a few tools and some jumper cables but would like a kit that fits in the rear seat storage compartment. I have seen the OEM Tacoma one (PT420-00130) and have looked at kits from AAA and Orion. Should I just buy one already made up or make my own? Obviously the Toyota one seems to offer less for more but if it fits neatly under the rear seat then it may be worth it. Any thoughts or idea?

Do some research and piece together your own, it will be much better and customizable than something put together by some random company.

There is a thread on here that discusses what emergency equipment a lot of us carry.

OP - use this thread as an emergency kit build thread. There's threads here and there about what tools and crap do you have in your truck, but as far as I can tell nothing focused on emergency kits. Then again maybe no one has collated the info out there into one focused thread.

Wow, thanks! Yeah, I just want something effective but also out of sight and out of mind until it's needed. I'm not kidding when I say my creativity abilities suck!

I also think the provided thread is good for off the grid travel and wheeling ideas. I also just want a small kit of everyday use in addition to all the great ideas for travel and off-road oriented items.

I think a lot of people post their every day emergency kits in that thread too. There is also a "bail out bag" thread which is more on the lines of what you're looking for.

That was kind of my point too. I want something like those Toyota kits with your typical stuff for everyday use and good Samaritan type stuff. I think the Toyota kit doesn't offer as much as some of the others - shocker. But, it amazes me how many ideas some of these folks have for off-road uses. I'm not a huge planner and maybe should have just ask the ultimate planner (my wife) before I posted!

I'll check it out. I think the bail out bag is more like what I'm looking for. Again, many thanks!

    Exactly

I've pieced together my gear from experience and research. Nobody makes a kit that contains everything one would need.

That is what I'm seeing too. I'm hoping to "borrow" from some of the more creative people here. I'm more of a just go and have fun and don't worry kind of person and that doesn't always work so well when crap goes wrong. I'm like a "well honey the flashlight batteries were just fine last year" kind of person.

It's crazy. I used to be a lot better about planning but then the 40s happened and I stopped sweating everything ....
