    It is scary...hypothetically. In reality, it's less so because China would NEVER do that.

    Their economy is entirely dependent upon our consumption. The land of Wal-Mart needs cheapass piece-of-shit goods to buy...and China needs us to buy them.

    So, in effect, we buy their crap, then they loan us our own money back to buy more...THAT'S the real problem...they're slowly transferring all our industry AND capital over to them...and that's the REALLY scary thing.

    Theoretically, they could completely own us in a few decades, but they'd never cash the check...because think about this...what's more useful, having someone pay you back, or having someone owe you forever? They want us where if we start to get uppity, they can just tug the debt strings a couple times and we fall in line. That'll be the real trap. They want world political power (in effect, to be the next superpower), not our dollars.

    Very fair point. obviously i am not in disagreement with you as it doesn't appear that you are with me, but yeah it really is scary. . . I'm just a college kid that takes a lot of economics classes (making me know everything (jk)) and it all is just fascinating to me. And yes, my scenario is hypothetical, and no one thinks they'll really completely cash out, but with the U.S. currently borrowing 42 cents on every dollar, who knows what's in store for the future?
