    Measured.

When I started looking, I wanted another Hilux sized truck to replace my 1991.
Apparently Toyota sells the Hilux and manual transmission world-wide, but not in the US.

Here, we get "lifestyle" trucks that are far larger than what I wanted.
So, I had to settle for the 2023 Tacoma and automatic transmission, which is far larger than my 1991.

Most of those don’t work, or take 24+ hours to charge. Do a lot of dispersed camping out in the middle of nowhere, then run round around exploring from camp, off-road eats up range in a hurry. Sorry man, won’t work until they get better range. You can look at maps all you want but physically on the ground there are too many compromises.

*Won't work until they reach a price competitive point comparable to ICE for range due to economies of scale.

The Lucid Air already gets 516 miles of range. The $78k model gets 419 mile range.

Oh the $7500 EV tax credit isn't applied at checkout so it just doesn't count then? lmfao. $53k - $7500 = ?? That's also not including the fact Ford dealers actually mark their trucks down (which is why i can find you a lightning XLT for $50k right now that's $6k under MSRP. What is $50k - $7500? hmmm) but i know that is hard for Toyota boys to understand when we have to hunt for a specific dealer to just give us at MSRP.

No math is hard I cannot math.

The 24 Taco pro is 78.9 inches wide vs f150's 79.9 inches, I guess i was wrong to compare the wider pro instead of the base model Taco. My bad, a TRD Pro is effectively the same width as an F150.

And that does what for me exploring Forest Service and Jeep roads? Would get that thing stuck at most of the just off of the pavement trail heads I use. And look at the price, could buy two Toyotas for that, one commuter and one camp rig, plus cash leftover for fuel. Only thing that would work is the Lightning, Rivian, or CyberTruck and we already went over their flaws if you going to use it like an actual truck.

You can keep on trying to sell the EV thing, but I am not buying, and looks like a lot of others aren’t either. Lightning sales are dismal, and Rivian…are they even going to be around in 2 years. Seeing a lot on the used market, apparently the honeymoon faded quick.

I'm not buying today either, until it has a Toyota badge. BEV's still certainly won't be good for everybody, especially use cases like yours.

Lmfao at you thinking at tax time, that - $7500 applies automatically to everyone. Additionally, you're comparing a TRD Pro. A limited production configuration that not many will own (stupid Truck has shocks for seats), to a failed mass produced vehicle that Ford cut production on because no one wants to buy the Lightning. The Lightning that dealerships can't markup because of its short comings. The Lightning Pro is an EV with sub 150 mile real world range. If you want a better comparison. You compare a a 2024 TRD Pro Tacoma to a Ranger Raptor.

With that aside, why do you keep recommending a failed vehicle? What value do you get out of this?

I like the idea of EVs, unfortunately there is no “do-it-all” available at this time. While the Tacoma isn’t perfect, it is pretty darn close. Why it sells like hotcakes.

Literally nobody is telling you that you should buy an EV for roaming the Idaho backcountry.

Unfortunately, it's still a mid-size by today's metrics. For example, 2022 Tundra increased in dimensions in comparison to the previous gen.

Ford is likely to sell 40k units by end of year. I wouldn't call it a failed vehicle. In the first nine months of the year, F-150 Lightning sales increased about 40 percent YoY. They are able to mark vehicles down because they don't restrict production and don't use an allocation model like Toyota....

I can also show you a 24' Chevy 1500 Custom 4x4 for $40k that was marked down from $52k, it also shits all over the 4th gen Tacoma for the same price. The lightning was a single example to highlight how antiquated the 4th gens numbers are for 2024 at their price point (20% higher than prior gen). This is called a comparison of similarly priced products.

Why are you so upset about the lightning having so much more HP TQ and MPGe than the Tacoma at a similar price point?

Does the 5.0 V8 in the F150 getting the same MPG as the 4th gen Taco also upset you?

By todays definition it is, and it is about the perfect Goldilocks size, absolutely love the size of my 3rd Gen, the 4th is even bigger.

Since I have owned Toyotas from the 80s, personally don’t consider it a mid-size. More like a pre-2000 reimagined full-size. It is really close in dimensions to my old ‘76 F250.

4th Gen is closer to a Tundra than it is those early 80s trucks.

I'm not? It's disingenuous to not consider all the other factors. If we are comparing similarly price products. You can get a new Model 3 performance for 40K (after the EV tax credit). The Model 3 Performance hits 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. The Model 3 performance has a 333 miles of estimated range.

Do you see how stupid that comparison is?

Can the Model 3 tow 6k pounds and does it have a bed with a payload?

Comparing a truck to a truck isn't disingenuous.

Tell me more about how the Chevy 1500 4x4 is not comparable to a Tacoma because it's all around better but it's not a 1/2 ton. Too bad, Toyota priced their 1/2 ton as comparable to full sizes, so that's what it will be compared to, and it loses by nearly every metric for the same price point.

Oh, its not similarly priced products anymore. Its truck to truck now? Keep back peddling.

Nobody is back peddling. You seem awfully defensive about the 4th gen Tacoma's numbers compared to other similarly priced trucks, it's actually kind of strange.

Full size vs mid size. I'm sure you'll move the goal most enough to finally make a point.

Uh yeah full size is all around more truck and price points have historically reflected that and now they don't.... Try to keep up....
