It is a 4 cyl turbo. Just don't want a 4 banger in a truck. Personal preference.

Why, though? It’s more powerful and torquier at lower RPM than the outgoing v6 by a wide margin.

hell, it makes more horsepower and torque at lower RPM than the old ford 5.4L triton, which is certainly manly enough for truck duty

Engine was fine. Body looks too bulbous, interior…the dash looks like it is made from recycled soda bottles, I drive 20-25K miles a year, spend a lot of time in the cab, need to like what I am looking at.

At the time, didn’t want an electric t-case, few other things…never wowed me to buy one. Honestly didn’t even want to get a 3rd Gen was perfectly content with my 1st Gen, just got tired of fixing it. I would have sold it, but my wife wanted to keep it.

Took awhile for the 3rd Gen to grow on me, now I love it. Love the clamshell doors on my AC, of course everything I like companies tend to discontinue. It’s weird, held on to that 1st Gen for over 20 years, now that I finally bought a new truck, keep on looking to upgrade…(hopefully that bug goes away) they might of got me to trade in early, but no AC, I’ll pass. Probably move to a F-Series instead, not crazy about the Tundra either.

lol, what a first world problem thread.

i just got my '18 3 years ago, after planning on buying once since the 2017 reveal.

yea, i'm gonna "skip" the 4th gen. my private jet had to undergo some unexpected maintenance after running through a school zone full of cheerleaders

One can never have too many light bars.
I plan on skipping every generation until the arc reactor powered versions come out in 2070.

Definitely prefer the exterior/interior of 3rd gen, but like the powertrain more of the 2nd.

I think a fully electric option is a terrible idea unless you are city driving and have time for long charge times. Hybrid is the way to go if you want an electric vehicle. For me I will hold on to my 07 access cab OR prerunner as I think they failed with the 24 prerunner with it being Xtracab and leaves under axel. It makes as a terrible option for off roading. If I do go for a 4th gen I will probably get a crew cab and delete the back seats or go for a 3rd Gen frontier with kingcab.

Now only if we could get the 4th Gen powertrain in the 3rd Gen, because the only cab configuration I am interested in is the Access Cab. Styling of the 4th is a bit much, sure I’ll get used to it. Didn’t care for the 3rd when it came out, the 4G now makes it look tame.

Nah. I picked the right gen to skip, the 3rd. The power train was such a disappointment and the rest of the truck was basically the same as 2nd gen. Really no redeeming qualities.

While it’s kinda hard to get excited about a 4cyl in the 4th gen, at least it has the hp/torque figures to make a stand, and they finally addressed a lot of the other shortcomings. I’m betting it’ll be a very successful package

Better arch shape for weight carrying. Makes sense in the trucks used for work (SR, etc)

They should at least made the coil rear an option on the Xtra Cab, and well retained the AC. Seems like they focused on the Brolanders instead of the average everyday Joes. We like some nice stuff, but don’t want to go overboard either.

I'm getting a Taco or a Tundra next year. I currently drive an 08 Taco. I'm glad I skipped 3rd gen.

Around 2030 I'll get and electric once solid state batteries are a reality. Electrics don't make sense to me right now. I need more range out of them.

How is your 08 holding up? How's the rust and what mileage you at?

Skip for now. Real reasons? No budget, loans make me sick.
I love tacomas any configuration or Gen. after all they are tacos and even after many years, miles and roll overs. people pay crazy amounts of money. compared to any other similar truck out there.

I agree. Especially when interest rates are 5%+ this is with excellent credit too.

That being said, paying cash for my next new car purchase. Does not make sense to finance.

That makes a lot of sense. Tacoma leafs are a serious weak point.

Makes a lot of sense for a work truck, the Land Cruiser 70s are spring under. So were the Toyota 1 tons of the 80s and 90s.

IF the Toyota Tacoma Prerunner was an actual desert Prerunner, can get a lot more travel out of it.

Bit of detail of the benefits of sprung under here, albeit on the extreme side of things.

I would go with a 6 cylinder Tundra before I bought this 4 turbo, especially with the hybrid. No way.
