That's very cool! The house we lived in before our new house was built in 1919 and I invested about 60k in it and the 3 acres we had. We sold it when we bought our new house and I drove by a year or so ago and it is falling in on itself. Almost broke my heart knowing all the work I put into it. Weeds 3-4' tall with no yard to speak of.

The House right before we moved out

Depends on what kind of weeds you're looking to get rid of. I know that isn't the answer you were looking for but there are different types of weed killers that work on some and not on others. That said, if you just have a few weeds here and there the best thing is just to pull them up and make sure you get the root along with it.

Keeping our lawns neat and our car/trucks clean are some of the great things that makes us Americans and separates us from the terrorist!

I am just about the only person that does his own lawn in my neighborhood..and I also clean my cars myself..and they are kept clean at all times. My neighbors always ask me why I don't pay someone to do it.
    1. Nobody does a job as good as me.
    2. It clears my head, gives me time to think and focus. It relaxes me.

For those that have never lived in South Texas...we have watering restrictions and as the Summer drags on it..it is very difficult to keep a green perfect lawn in August. But it looks great now.

I just took this picture last Saturday...I did the lawn and then washed cars....then and only then can my weekend begin and I can sit back and relax.

OP your yard looks great and you have a lot to be proud of. I would be honored to have you as a neighbor.

They look green tall about two feet tall, I had been focusing in the front and didn't look at how the weeds have grown in back. they are growing in the rocks so no need to worry about harming grass or anything

x2 on pulling the weeds, even if its a daunting task it is better than spraying chemicals that kill them. I had to pull weeds every spring for the first couple years at my house until the lawn was strong enough to prevent them. I look at it this way, if I pull a weed it is gone today, if I spray a weed and wait 2 weeks I still have a dead weed with roots in my lawn.

Yup.... mowed the yard today and pulled about 10 weeds. Grass is thick right now.

Hacked huge poison ivy vine in half and painted roundup on the bottom portion of the vine. Two weeks later, all the grass is dead (along with the poison ivy) - guess this stuff kills whatever it touches.

Did you use a fire hose to spray the round up? :D

Can anyone recommend a decent plug aerator? Having issues with nutsedge. From what I am reading, it appears to be a drainage and soil issue.

You can rent them but I find it easier to just get a lawn maintenance company to come out and do it. Cost about $70 for my yard.

I use the powdered roundup. You mix a scoop of it with water in a handpump backpack sprayer. It works well. It's what the previous owner used. He said it works better than the premixed stuff.

In the grove, I just cut them with a weed wacker or pull them by hand. The only time they really sprout and get big is when it rains. Other than that, it's too hot and dry for them to survive long. I don't use weedkillers out there as it can affect the avocados. I have weeds that look like dandelions that grow to about 2-4 feet if I don't keep on top of them.
