I’ve searched and could only find post regarding aftermarket speakers. Just started today, front and back driver speakers cut out.

If I go over a good bump or a hard turn, they’ll cut in but go right back out. I’m using a Bluetooth transmitter, but after turning it to just radios and unplugging the transmitter, same thing happens. Maybe a bad plug? Any ideas are awesome. Thanks!

If I was guessing, I’d say the radio has something internal going on.

    Here’s why I think that

One common cause of speakers cutting in and out is a short. A speaker wire somewhere in the truck is touching metal it shouldn’t be touching.
I don’t think it is this because Toyota radios typically shut off ALL the speakers when this happens.

Some other possibilities would be the wiring connector going into each speaker in the door, but it’s unlikely that both doors would be doing it at the same time over the same bumps.
Then there’s the connectors behind the radio. Highly unlikely that it’s these either, because the front speakers are in one plug (along with the main radio power) and the rear speakers are in a separate plug. Toyota connectors make very solid connections so the likelihood of both connectors coming undone just enough for a front and rear speaker to quit but everything else to keep working is going to be nearly impossible.

All that to say, I think it’s the radio.

Thank you for the response. Is there anyway to check that other than with another head unit? Everything iS OEM, if that helps. Thanks again.

not really unfortunately. You could pull the radio out and test it on the bench, but you wouldn't be able to replicate the bumps and stuff that cause the issue.
Or find someone with a 2nd gen tacoma and ask to throw your radio in there and see if it replicates in their truck

So just try and replace the head unit and see if that fixes it?

Yeah that’s probably your best bet. There just aren’t enough troubleshooting options to link it to anything else.
That being said, no guarantees a new radio will fix it because we don’t 100% know what the actual problem is (but if I was a gambling man, my money would be on the radio dying)

Does anyone have a wiring diagram? It could be that there is a loose connector somewhere along the path that is shared by the speakers on each side. For example, the door speakers in my truck go through a connector under the kick panel in the foot wells.

yeah, the radio has 4 amplifier channels in it, and those amps could be going bad, or there is a loose connection or a broken solder joint somewhere inside. lot's of stuff going on in there

also, is this the JBL or non-JBL system?

    Ok just making sure.
that's actually a good thought. I pulled the diagram and unfortunately those wires aren't in any share connectors.

Time to bust out the magnifying glass and look at some joints.

but hey, at least you'll get built-in bluetooth and some of the newer features, plus more power output.

Are the newer (2012-2015) touchscreen ones pretty much plug and play?
