I have a 2003 Tacoma PreRunner 6 cylinder Automatic with the TRD package, ive noticed it makes a whooping noise whenever I come to a stop or when I accelerate from a stopsign. Its noticeable and i was wondering if someone could help me figure out what it is. I have no idea of where to even begin looking for what might be causing it.

    Thank you.

Its very unpredictable, It doesnt do it EVERY single time but its enough to the point where its annoying. I am not sure if I can record it due to the fact that do not drive my truck often here at college. I do not believe its warped rotors and it only lasts a second. The truck is an 03 and has 64,000 miles.

Does it pop only when you're going slow?

Mine pops randomly too. I think it's a body mount or something. It's done it since I bought the truck 2 years ago.

Well I heard it earlier today about 7ish on my way to breakfast, and i guess its more of a whistle, the sound only lasts a second or so.

Do you have an intake? Some of them do this.

Ive only had the truck since July of this year, the tires are like new, they were put on the truck a few weeks before i bought it judging by the look of them. I do not have a aftermarket intake. The whole truck is stock except for 30" General grabber At2's which are virtually noiseless., this is also my first time having a truck with ABS. The dealer Sewell Lexus in Dallas, TX, did all the maintenence, chainging the fluids, belts, etc. before i bought the truck.

I have yet to try out my ABS but I know for a fact my old tacoma (an 02 Prerunner 4 cylinder auto single cab) did not have it and i learned several times the hard way. I ended up flipping that truck into a ditch after I fell asleep at the wheel at 55-70 miles an hour and hitting a ditch sending the truck 7 or 8 feet into the air, smacking a pole which caused the truck to rotate, i woke up in time to say oh $%#@ and brace for the impact. I actually walked in the front door of my friends house despite my injuries and a 98 percent chance of paralysis!

I did something like that with my old one, my buddys got a mega cab dodge 3500 deisel and he was going through all this mud and what not, well I had 31" tires on the old taco and he was liek "You got it! if you get stuck ill pull you out" I went in, heard KLUNK!, got stuck, he pulled me out, truck was fine or so it seemed, then saw a skid plate sticking out of the mud. I grabbed it, thinking oh cool a skid plate, i can hang it on the wall. Went home for the weekend, dad comes outside and says, "let me see that skid plate you found." It was off the bottom of my truck. Turns whatever it got stuck on ripped plate off the bolts, which were still in the frame. That was interesting putting that back on.
