Whatever you're going to do you should start sooner rather than later. The whole claims process isn't all that quick. I would first notify the vendor that their item has arrived damaged (you should open the box to inspect the part). It's really up to them to file a damage claim with UPS since they shipped it. Just tell them to ship you another one. If they refuse then tell your credit card company to stop payment to them. If they want their damaged part back tell them to send a "call tag". That way the vendor pays for return shipping too. Tape back up the box just the way that you got it and the UPS driver will pick it up. Don't forget that you're the customer here.

I have to chime in here. If the company that I'm ordering from will only ship UPS I'll order from someone else. Man they just rip us Canadians. Very seldom it comes to the right address. Hey, I'm not saying they are all bad but I've had real bad luck. UPS to Canada sucks period, way too expensive. USPS is the only way to go in my experience. Alright fire away.

My only complaint with UPS is once that the package was in my town, 2 miles from my house, but it was delayed till the next day because it was "transferred to post office", but after reading up on it; i found out that that is from the shippers request, so meh.

But other than that, i have nothing but good things to say. I ordered some tires and shocks from tirerack; delivered by ups. I left my screen door open so hopefully he would put the shocks and tires in there since it was raining. The delivery truck driver (while i was at work), put them in the screen encloser closet to my house door, aswell as the package the shocks were in so that they would not get wet. So that pleases me to see there are some caring people left about your stuff.

But everyone has bad experiences at one point, goodluck to OP to get it resolved and hope it is ok.

I've never had a problem with FedEx, but UPS, I continually question their shipping/handling practices. I don't know, but it seems as if their quality control has slipped a bit the last few years. Every package I get lately looks like if its fallen off the truck or something. FedEx, never.

As many have stated, UPS will reject any claim due to packing I am sure. My last item I sold on e-bay was a brand new commercial microwave. 142lbs. Not something you could throw around. Built a custom box exceeding UPS standards IMO. Insured it for the cost of the transaction just in case. When it arrived it was trashed. Buckled metal, broken interior, dents, etc. UPS denied my claim due to packing, even when it was insured!! Had to file an appeal, and lucky for me I did take packing photos along the way. I finally won this case I heard last week, but still have not received the check and its been almost 3 months!
UPS is the only carrier I have had issues with in shipping or receiving packages just as an FYI. Always my last choice...

I have seen UPS drivers throw packages around in the trucks with no regards for the packages over the years. I have worked in warehouses and seen this on the docks when they were p/u or delivering. I have watched and thought damn, I'm glad that ain't my sh#t!

Wow, never realized UPS was such a hated company:rolleyes:.I have been a driver for UPS for 21 years.I personally would rather my stuff come UPS because I have never had a problem with anything.Employees who dont care are everywhere. On a side note I wish I took a picture of my tonneau cover box.It was pretty beat up but luckily the cover was ok-Fed Ex home delivery dropped it off.

I just wanted to add to this thread since i found the first picture so familiar. I also just recieved a Grille from the same source, my box looked very similar. One piece of tape holding the top closed, and the tape was not centered enough on half of the box to even keep that shit closed. Was a terrible packing job, but luckily my Grille still survived.. Still hoping im not missing any odd piece that got broken though.

142lbs, is throwable, in fact some items that are heavy and irritate the person carrying it gets a good toss, trust me.

EVERY PACKAGE gets touched by a human, dont matter how many belts, chutes, or slides it still has to be loaded, unloaded, stacked in a can, unpacked from a can and handled by a human and thats were the trouble is, its EVERY delivery company not just UPS. The heavier the item does not mean it wont get damaged, in fact it means its more likely to get damaged. Like i said before i have worked along side ALL the major carriers and this is just how "business" is, are they trying to crack down on this? hell yeah they are, will they ever stop this? never... BECAUSE they handle thousands and thousands of packages these problem happen, its just the way of the beast:D

Only packaging question you'll ever need:

Can my package be dropped 6 feet and kicked?

If you can't answer a 100% YES, your packaging needs improvement.

This may have already been said, but I believe UPS is responsible!

They accepted the package for delivery from the sender, and in my opinion they accept ALL responsibility for that package when the sender gives it to them until it reaches its destination, PERIOD

Otherwise, UPS should refuse the package and make the sender pack it it they way UPS wants. If UPS is going to accept packages like that, then they accept the responsibility for it.

I'm not saying the sender is not at fault, (maybe they are, but maybe they aren't) but there is really no way to tell what the package looked like when the sender gave it to UPS. All we know is it looks like this when it shows up. This is no different than a renting a car; you accept all responsibility once the car leaves the lot - once you accept it. So..if you don't write down all the scratches and dents before you leave, then you could be responsible for them.

So again, IMO when UPS accepts a package from a sender, they accept all responsibility for that package until it reaches its destination.

^^^ only problem is that UPS doesnt open packages to see that they are packaged good. That is the responsibility of the shipper.Box could look perfect when UPS got it but if you pack it like shit damages will happen. There has to be some accountability on the shipper
