I've got an '03 XR650R and my wife's '08 WR250, plus a BMW 1200GSA. I used to do a lot of riding in the Boulder foothills, but now I've got kids, so go for a longer trip about once a year...

I'm moving out to Boulder in 5 days and I'll be bringing my KTM 690 Enduro. Once I get a job and refill the bank account since it has been drained too much by living in the Bay Area (CA), I plan to get a "real" dirt bike.

I have never ridden a motorcycle with smaller than a 600cc engine, so I'd love to find a way to try some smaller bikes out on trails. I've been mountain biking for more than a decade on advanced trails so I have the skills with a 25lb bike, but not my current ~320lb bike with 55+ hp. I found that loaded up in Baja, it was a bit much in the deep sand after the Baja 1000 race tore up the earth.

I believe the 2t 300s have 50+HP and 100 lbs. lighter. It's like your mountain bike with a motor. ;) Uphill is more fun than down w/ a motor.

So I just picked up a KTM 300 XC-W off a friend for a deal I couldn’t pass up. I rode dirt bikes from when I was about 5 years old until around the middle of high school where I kind of just stopped. So it’s been a while... Can anyone recommend an area or some easier trails to get a feel for riding again? I was looking at RAM off road park. I’m sure riding will come back to me quickly but I’m hesitant on such a capable bike...

More crowded on weekends but rampart range. However both the road and trails are currently closed for a few months for “mud season” but ya can take it down to the gulches and ride

Yeah I make it out to Rampart all the time in the truck. I’m looking forward to checking it out on the bike. I also want to get the bike played so I can ride on Rampart Range Road if need be.

Finding a used one is difficult. What did you pay?

I suggest Rampart as well. There's many levels of riding there. Get a map for sure. Or get the free Avenza app and buy the Rampart map. GPS Works w/o cell service. No guessing where you are. Has all the new trails on it.

I got it for $5k. It’s a 2015 with around 500 miles. My buddy is moving out of state and couldn’t take it with him so it all worked out.

I’ll definitely have to check out that app, thanks for the recommendation.

Definitely. I’m sure I’ll be finding ways to get out of working Monday’s so I can go ride haha...

I don’t have all the fancy pads. All I got left from my mtb days is a full face helmet. I don’t even think I have my gloves anymore :pout:

Nice bike, I ride a 2016 300XC-W, theyre great bikes for our mountains and trails!!

Somewhere easy, that is open right now and not muddy/snowy.... 4 mile ohv area in Buena Vista. I rode there last week with a cpl buddies, trails are very mellow, mostly ATV 2-track, lots of hard pack dirt, some sandy washes here and there, small hill climbs, nothing hard at all. Theres two "main" trail heads, North and South, both pretty easy to find and have plenty of parking (north one has a loading dock/ramp you can back truck right up to).
