Heads up to anyone interested myself and some buddies are making a dirtbike trip to Moab April 25-29. Also hitting hells revenge in the taco with some other yodas and maybe slick rock aka hells revenge for db (it's really not a hard trail wheeling or on dirtbikes) you can bypass anything out of your comfort zone20180324_151215.jpg

Been looking for a used KLX 140L for the wife. All the nut jobs on Craigslist want over $2000 for their used ones. Almost worth it to buy new but I don't want to drop that kind of cash on a little dirtbike.

It's the nut jobs buying them for that price as well! Good thing is I will never lose money on it if I get it for a good price.

That's true. We only lost $100 on it after a year and a half of owning it.

I've never been on a 2-stroke or small bike. I currently have a 690 Enduro. I plan to ride the Colorado BDR this year and then maybe downsize to a slightly smaller bike afterwards. I don't mind doing my own maintenance, but I don't want to have to change the oil every ride or rebuild the engine every other month, which is a benefit of the 690.

Why would I want a two-stroke? Why not just get a 500EXC or 501 and have that as my everything bike? I don't truck my bike to places, so street legal is important as well as capability to ride at highway speeds (yes, I know some people complain about riding a dirt bike above 50mph on pavement, but I had an XR650R that I put 1,800 miles on over 8 days on mostly highway to get to Joshua Tree/Death Valley/Mojave Preserve, so vibes don't bother me).

I don't care to be tearing up the mud or riding VERY technical stuff - that is way more fun on my MTB to me.

2 stroke 300cc street legal. If you dont like them, you've obviously never ridden one.

I didn't say I didn't like technical riding, just that I am not planning on buying a small dirt bike for super tight trails and seek those out.

The most technical I have done so far were sections of the Baja 1000 course over xmas-new years a few months ago. I had too much stuff because my bike was the only one with a rack that could carry weight, so I ended up with other people's gear. Deep sand, ruts, gravel, rocks, washes. Nothing super steep or off camber that we came across.

I was specifically talking about that race. It's tough and will definitely beat you up. Maybe you don't think the bdr is technical.
