I was reading this thread and can't believe there was so much love for the 450's and dislike for the 2 strokes. Guess people don't like the light and nimble bikes that are fun to ride.

I know I joke, and I'm bit of a two stroke fan boy but why anyone rides 450's on the woods trails is beyond me. They're so heavy and a huge workout. So much moving mass makes them less nimble, just the way it is. They also couldn't lug like my 300 could which even surprised me. Then the mid range was too explosive making it hard to handle in the tight twisty stuff. Honestly wouldn't ever consider a thumper for the woods. Too many biased opinions out there on which bike is the best when they're good for different types of riding. In the woods, give me a 2 stroke. Desert or fast wide open stuff, grab the 450.

The ole 450 never disappointed me in the woods. I guess I just adapted to the bike. Or I'm just stubborn and don't know any better. Either way :bikewheelie:

We will just have to ride and get you on a 2 stroke setup for the woods! I want to try one of the 350xcw-f's I have heard great things about those.

@kashtyaatsi rode a ktm 450. Right? Well it all about the manufactures intended purpose. I'd be willing to put a dollar on that you'd like something like a wr450. Somthing more designed for trails.

After injuring myself at the track in 2004 I outfitted my 450R to be more trail worthy and I still love it. My next bike will be a fuel injected trail 450.

My fuel injected has been better and way more relialabd than the previous bikes with carbs. One of the worst carb bikes was an old ttr230

The smaller carb the more finicky it is. When I first bought my 450 I was a bike mechanic and had access to a dyno. I have it tuned almost perfect. Any drastic change in elevation all I have to do is go 1 up or 1 down on the main jet and maybe a 1/2 turn on the fuel screw. Still, no match for fuel injection

The xcf is their trail 450, and it's not so much the engine and suspension aspect of it. It's just the weight and maneuverability.

I could tell zero difference between the efi, and my lectron. I wouldn't ever trust something as fancy and finicky as efi on something that gets so thrashed and can leave me 50 miles in the woods and sol. With that being said I'm willing to bet a large amount of riders don't ride the stuff I like to ride. If you just putt putt around the less technical trails maybe you're fine. Show me how many pros ride 450's at erzberg...probably zero. With that same idea I'm not gonna see every guy at the track or out in the desert running a 300 smoker either...maybe a few odd ones.

Like I said, too much bias towards 2's or 4's with no reason behind it. They excel at different things and I don't think you should try and force them to do something they're not good at.

Would any of you guys be interested in buying my 2003 KTM 450 exc? It's a project bike but you could make money on it once it's fixed. It has $1500 worth of mxtech suspension, jd jet kit, head gasket is leaking and it needs new fork seals. Letting it go for $1000. Could fix it and sell it for $2000-2500 I just need it out of my garage.

Need to ride harder trails if you think you need that 450. I've ridden a wr450, and it was terrible on anything other than fireroads. I love flying past people on the little 150. Perfect bike for the technical trails.

I'll watch when you get your 450s down the grizzly-helena trail.

How good of a rider are you? :D

I consider myself OK on the single track, but that trail took my brother and I 7 hours one way, followed by 50 miles of county roads to get back to the truck. It's considered one of the hardest single tracks in the state.
