I live outside of Philly. We had a record breaking snowfall year this last winter. My 08 Off-Road Taco didnt think twice about getting through anything.

My old 2WD S-10 would have shit itself in the driveway... It was the first and only 2WD I'll ever own for an everyday driver.

Though I do like the performance 2WDs... They all serve a purpose. :)

I have a 4x4 however i find that i rarely even need it. If you have the right set up i say 2wd. Plus if you can do in 2wd what someone else uses 4wd for i say your the victor.

I can afford any truck I want and I chose a PreRunner. I couldn't care less what anyone has to say about my truck, it's mine, it's what I wanted. It's how I want it. If I'd needed 4x4 I'd of paid for it.

I think it all depends on where you live and what tires you have, here in canada I need 4x4 in the winter, well I needed it with my stock tires, now with new winter tires as well i have mud tires, I think either would be able to make it through in 2 wheel drive.

2 wheel drive could make it thought that snow no problem, its when the snow has been piled up high for a few months of sun that it gets tough to go through with only 2 wheel drive.

Pull your 2wd up onto the pedestal. Problem solved.

Who gives a damn. Follow a 4x4 til he gets stuck then drive past him? Do you like your 4x2. I'm guessing yes.....F the haters.

It doesn't matter what type of truck it is...you got what you got and you bought what you bought to suit your needs.

The only problem i have is when people start trying to justify buying a 4X2 by saying it can go "pretty much" anywhere a 4X4 can, or my favorite..."Ive been out with plenty of 4X4s and followed them just fine". hahahaha,... yeah only because the terrain allowed it!!!!!!!!! stop fooling yourselves.

You bought a 4X2 because you didn't need a vehicle that could navigate a more aggressive terrain, or you are a bargain shopper and the 4X2 price was just right up your alley. plain and simple. there is no other reason. you either did it for needs or did it for price.

I call bullshit when i hear people try to say that they have kept up with 4X4s plenty and can do just as good. you always hear the 4X2s say that they have seen many a 4X2 keep up with 4x4s on a run or that they themselves have been on plenty of runs where they did just as well as 4x4s.

Listen we all understand that the driver is a very important variable in this equation. but the fact is, you put a 4x4 with a 4x2 and the 4x4 is going to leave the 4x2 waaaaaay behind time and time again. it is just the way it is.

Nobody is on a pedestal ladies and gentlemen. If you cant swim then stay out of the water that is all. 4x2s are the way to go in certain situations but lets not pretend they can come close to conquering the same terrain.

spoken with a smile guys...spoken with a smile:)

Just a bunch of old crap
My first 2 trucks were both 2 wheel drive and I hated not having 4x4 to have that sense of security that I could cross a sandy riverbed, deep mudhole, steep climb, etc. Now that I'm all growed up and big, I could finally afford the 4x4 so I jumped on it. Even though I'm only in 4x4 for 5% of the year, I love having that piece of mind. It's not that I'm on a pedestal, it's that I have the old boy scout mentality of always being prepared (and being glad that I can afford it).

The wife and I just did 3 days working with the Sheriff's Communications Posse at the Wild Land Fire Engine training school. It was so muddy that we did have to use 4H.

Fuck what other people think. If your truck suits your needs, that's all that matters. Personally, I'd NEVER buy a 4x2 truck, but that's because I have to drive in northeast winters and am in sand a lot at the shore so a 4x2 wouldn't do me much good. But I'd never down on someone saying their truck wasn't capable or whatever. We've seen what the Prerunners can do.

Although, I did laugh one time at a guy trying to tell me his 4x2 regular cab 4 cyl Ranger could get places my Taco couldn't lol.

I just like knowing 4x4 is there. Sort of like my trusty ole .45 It's always there if ya need it. Prerunners are fine to me. I guess it all really depends on your personality. Some of the nicest trucks I've seen are prerunners.

Backed (no homo, just in case).

The best part about when a 4x2 says they can do "pretty much" what a 4x4 can do is probably because the driver of the 4x4 is still in 2wd as well! You bought a prerunner because it suits your needs, the price was right, or you wanna go LT and didn't care about the 4wd.

PS: I'm a prerunner and I bought my truck because I was young, dumb, and didn't know I would wheel. If I were to do it again I would either buy a 1st gen 4x4 or older taco, or TJ. I still love my truck regardless and this is my stepping stone for when I'm older and the funds allow to have a trail rig/expedition rig.
