    Howdy,

This has always bugged me but I never "needed" an aftermarket till now so....

Yea WHY a locking device that depends on air pressure!? Seem like it is asking for trouble.

Are there aftermarket E-Lockers? I've gathered one can NOT add a Toyota E-Locker to a sport; different differentials...right?

I know I can swap out my rear end but prefer to keep what I have and have confidence in.

Just starting to consider which way to go to add a locker to a Sport.

    Thanks,

    Warren

Call Brian Bock at Mud Connection. He's installed a bunch of them. I'm spending a good bit of money to get mine installed and I'm a believer.

Care to share how much your paying and which you went with? I guess application and exact Taco would have a bearing...

    Thanks,

I agree with your comment on the ARB. It adds a lot of complexity, with more that can go wrong while on the trail. I've seen it happen. Guys spend 2 grand on a locker, go out to use it, and something goes wrong.

Doesn't your sport model have a factory LSD in the rear? If so, you aren't gaining that much by switching to a locker. I have an aftermarket LSD in the rear of mine (previously open), and it works pretty well. On one occasion, I went over a tough rocky obstacle and heard someone say " . . . I didn't know he had a locker . . ."

If you're considering this you have to know that neither option is "cheap". When I looked at ARB vs. Harrop I found the installed price to be a little higher for the ARB depending on what compressor you went with. I bought two of these: https://www.harrop.com.au/shop/4x4-...locker/elocker-landcruiser-40-60-70-80-series. Cost was a little north of 2k. Install isn't done yet, but I'm expecting a similar bill + they're replacing the trunion bearings in the knuckle and all the seals. It's a 1994. I like having the axles done for a long time. Also, my Land Cruiser will be used by my wife and I wanted everything to look/operate as stock. Turn a knob. Also, with the knob there isn't the accidentally bumped the switch concern.

Ya know... I already took up a trail I "had" to put my 4Runner in locker mode.... but as you know it only takes once...

When I had the T4R I was doing a lot of solo back country work as I completed my MS in geology. Prof kept sending me deeper into it and it was really nice to know I could most likely get out of most situations I was likely to get into.

    Thanks,

    W
