That works for lemmings but not me.

We are the only species on the planet with both the power to destroy or preserve. Apperently there are some who still seem to deny that.
It's not a game and there's no winner. We have only this one place to live, why would anyone take the chance on wrecking it? When did denial of responsibilty become a species survival trait.

Nice ad hom slid in there, next time just come out and call me a lemming because I won't follow your god. I am sure you walk or cycle to work to avoid using that carbon emitting taco then not going out and tearing up the countryside on the weekends while destroying the vernal pools with fairy shrimp.

Well that's depressing. Potentially species ending problems on the line, and we can't discuss it for an hour without calling names. This is why we can't have nice things.

As to the original question - if my transportation uses less fuel, I can spend more on beer, so that I can forget how fucked we are.

    TLDR; We're fucked.

EDIT: Just to be perfectly clear - global warming is real. The evidence is out there, but nobody is going to convince anybody either way on the internet. You have to do the research yourself and pay attention to the world around you. A good rabbit hole to start with is start with is glaciers.

Some of us care a REASONABLE amount. But we’re not gonna sit here and have a fucking cry-off on a tacoma enthusiast forum.

The climate has been changing on this Big Blue Ball, LLLOONNGG before we ever stepped foot on it, and guess what, it's going to CONTINUE to change, even in front of our VERY EYES!

BUT we (Man & Woman) have as much effect on the climate, as a pimple on the back of a Hippo, does, in changing it's direction to where it is going!

    Did someone say TACOs?

Says one of 6,000,000,000 parasitic pimples steadily poisoning said hippo. We'd have far less effect if we spent less time pretending "it's not our fault". You take care of your truck, your yard, your house. You love your neighborhood, your state, your country, you love wheeling in the woods, the mountains, the deserts. You love places but the planet which houses them all gets nothing but disrespect. The mind boggles at the close minded parochialism. Every other industrialzed country recognizes this as a threat with far reaching consequences. Maybe it's just that we're too close to our pioneering roots and still believe there's somewhere else to go. I mentioned lemmings because they are an apt description of our behavior on this issue. We're not dumb animals but it does at times seem like it. I'm old enough to remember the acid rain and smog when the population was less than 1/2 what it is today, we did that, both the creation and temporary reduction. Not one person alone but a million or 10 in one city. Smog controls reduced that but sheer population increase is driving it up again while at the same time we're decimating those parts of the system that work to counter our oblivious ways. You ask why so many threads on mpg? The answer is simple, it matters.

So get rid of your Tacoma, buy the far more fuel efficient Ridgline lead by example. Today the CO2 in the atmosphere exceeded 415ppm the highest it has been in 800,000 years per the climate change scientist but guess what, the sun still came up. Did you know there were more volcanic eruptions in the 20th century than in the previous 10,000 years but something like that would never have an impact on CO2 levels.

Do you want to tell me more about your lord and savior Al Gore?

Do you have evidence to support this position? The Earth's climate has varied substantially throughout it's history, but usually does so at a slow rate.

The current rate of change is what's concerning, regardless of causes and has the potential for very real, very serious problems for future generations.

Probably closer to but not quite 100%. We have the distintion of being the only species yet to comprehend this and attempt to beat the odds. The catch is we have to earn it.

    Lol.

    Directly from your source:

"The top chart shows the number of eruptions observed by century from 98 BC (BC centuries with negative values in x-axis) to 21st century. In most recent centuries the frequency of observed eruptions are higher, having 3,542 (33% of the total) eruptions observed in Twentieth Century, the highest eruption count. This might give the idea that the eruptions are more frequent now than before, but that is not true. Human knowledge, science discoveries and new technologies allow us to be better now observing eruptions."

    My bolding for emphasis.

And I bet our ability to measure CO2 and temperature have changed allowing us to be better at observing those changes
