You are the one who comes across as the a-hole, with your arrogance about others trying to save money.

$35,000 for a vehicle isn't much these days....I hope mine lasts me for the 10 years I hoped for when I bought it.

MODS.....I am sorry for my posts, but I stand by what I said.

OP......sorry if I upset you, but this isn't the first thread where someone openly questions the MPG issue and saving money. Not everyone is in the same financial boat.

Lets get away from the bashing here and back on topic. Considering how capable the Tacoma is over a car, or SUV, and in my opinion much better than a half ton with its smaller size, in town or in the woods whatever. If its getting worse mileage than a half ton whatever, its a vehicle that more than likely covers most peoples needs right across the board. There are lots of options, AC, DCSB, DCLB, AT, MT, OR, Sport, SR, SR5, 2WD, 4x4, at the end of the day, most of you are probably getting the rated mpg in a stock Taco, and these trucks are gonna out live a lot of other vehicles on the road.

If they're not in the same financial boat they really should invest in a hooked on phonics CS set. The window sticker is as clear as day what the MPG is. I'm not a huge Dave Ramsay fan, but some of what he says is true, people will find creative ways with the help of cheap credit to keep up with the neighbors.

One thing i learned from past threads was the lighter the tire the better the mpg and like the one post read he was going buy expensive good light tires . They should last longer and get better mpg and kinda equal out the pay difference while giving a smooth ride . Food for thought .

I have Both a 2002 Tacoma and Corolla. Corolla average 30mpg and my Tacoma 14mpg, per fill up. Different tools for different jobs. It’s an apples to oranges comparison.

Side note, you shouldn’t complain about your gas mileage if you mod your vehicles. This is very true for the truck when people want to add armor, fat tires, RTT, lifts etc.

People’s obsession over mpg is why we can’t have a nice v6. Instead got some science experiment.

I'd opt for a V8 if they offered one and if it was engineered properly and matched with a decent AT it would probably only suffer 1-2 mpg, maybe less.

    .

I just purchased a 2016 corolla with 20k miles last week for 13,500 OTD to use for a daily driver. I have been getting close to 38 mpg. [This going by the computer on the car not actually calculating it as I haven’t put gas in it yet]

I’m actually paying the car note with just the money I’m saving in gas. Not to mention all the wear I’m saving on the expensive parts on my truck

Now my truck probably gets 13 mpg and I don’t give two shits because it makes me happy. But it’s fate is sealed as an off-road machine now

Moral of the story, buy a Corolla. It will pay for itself in gas saving

I had an 2003 Oldsmobile Alero with 266k miles. It was just a back-up car in case I broke my truck. I wanted to sale it before it blew up and it was time for something better. I got $1500 for it. I put it on Facebook marketplace and it was gone in an 1 1/2 hours.

600 miles a week to work
    And I avg 23mpg. (If I don’t clip
    90mph-100mph on the highway)
    It’s all highway.

    If I wanted 40mpg I’d get a Prius....
if I was getting 10mpg I’d bitch. Some of my previous cars got 12/14mpg

The $23/week is $1200/year or $12,000 in 10 years. And your numbers aren't quite right. You're comparing a Corolla in city driving to a Tacoma on the hwy. A more realistic look at fuel mileage is closer to 40 mpg for the Corolla and about 18 mpg for the Tacoma if you're comparing hwy mileage. Small differences in fuel mileage mean more in a truck too. If I can get from 18 mpg in my truck to 20 mpg @ $3.00/gal that 2 mpg will save me $300/year. If I improve a Corolla from 30 mpg to 32 mpg I'll only save $112 in a year.

My guess is that all the chat about MPGs is because a lot of owners are interested in fuel economy.

If you spend enough time on Interweb Forums, you will soon notice that popular topics generate lots of chatter and unpopular topics generate well, less chatter. They are popular because there is *interest" or, they are unpopular due to little or no *interest*.

Think of it this way: A show on TV or a clip on Youtube will get a lot of views if it is popular. My educated guess is that those shows or clips are interesting (at some level) to many people. Hence all the views!

The answer to your question seems simple once you think about it for awhile. HTHs
