Why are access cabs so hard to find?

Well i mean the reason is pretty obvious, people want the double cab for the room so therfore more are sold. As for me i have an access cab i like the way it looks lifted with bigger tires better, looks more desert prerunnerish

Demand is low so supply is low.

I had the same problem, esp MT ACs. I ended up going new since the ones that I found were priced high anyway.

Beyond that, it is only 13in difference. You don't gain enough space in the back of a DC to be worth the loss in the bed or for carrying around all that empty space most of the time. I have enough space to sit in the back of mine for short drives.

I have an access cab and I love it, but they don't fit many people's needs. The less people buy them, the less dealers stock them, the less Toyota makes. Rinse and repeat.

Stopped into the dealership today to get a part for my truck and parked next to a brand new black access cab 3rd gen 4x4. On the way out I met the old man who had just leased it. Was very pumped. Come to think of it, I have been seeing more AC than DC here in Southern Maine. Maybe it’s just the area..

How far are you willing to go and what trim level(s) will you accept?

Not a ton, but it took me just a minute (literally) to find some in your area. In true Tacoma fashion, prices are almost that of new.

I got a double cab because I'm not going to choose between stuffing my mother or my girlfriend in the back seat of an access cab. I got the long bed too because the stubby bed doesn't hold enough. If I really had to choose, it would be a lot harder to defend a smaller cab and more bed, even if it's what I want. I guess that's it mostly. Small cabs aren't practical. And the type of buyer who wants less cab and more bed is also probably the type of buyer who shops used.

As further evidence of this trend, they got rid of the 2 door cab altogether.

Haha I wouldn’t go that far.. it’s the bed size that really gets me... I’d run a DCLB

Those 3rd gen AC in quicksand are some slick!

I wanted to access cab because I don't haul people around, and the extra bed length was the most important thing to me, I also didn't want to drive a school bus (DCLB).

When I got mine new about 6 months ago the dealer said I was looking for a unicorn (SR5 4X4 V6 AC). Good thing they breed unicorns here!

I am coming from DCLB to ACLB. DCLB wasn't fun on the trails and most of the time rear seats were empty. :tumbleweed:
I am also a mean person and will enjoy watching people in the back suffer if they decide to go on a long ride with me.

Going with ACLB Off-road MT, something you can't have :canada:

My 05 AC Off Road MT is my favorite trim combo. (Only wish mine was black). Can you not get that trim for a 3rd gen in the US now?

    Too few to list.
Most likely just the area. Toyota allocate by regions. There are no access cab 4x4 in SoCal but plenty of DC 4x4. Had to drive 4 hours up north to get to the "northern region" for one.

Not anymore apparently, ACLB Off-Road in a manual only available for a lumberjack and maple syrup region.
Speaking of a black colour, I had 05 DCLB and now 15 DCLB in black, so much pain to buff it after the trails... Going with white this time.

I haven't noticed it being a penalty box. But then, the Fam likes it much more than the sidecar that I had before it.

I did plunk a 50L keg of beer right on the rear floor. I really isn't that small back there. The passenger seat was moved maybe half the way forward?

But then, I did ride in the back of old extended cabs. Those were tight, and sitting sideways was never fun.

I just saw a 2nd Gen standard cab short bed on Sunday. It looked like a Jeep on that frame.
