Completely accidentally, I discovered that Tacoma's intake valves are ferromagnetic (attract magnets) while the exhaust ones are not.

Why are they made of different types of metal ?

not uncommon at all. Exhaust valves see more heat and thus need to be able to be up to the task of this. Intake valves are cooled by incoming air.

    Science.................

We went past Cast Iron and started modifying metals back before your great grand-dad was born.

My VW GTI had exhaust valves that were filled with sodium metal. When they got hot, the sodium would melt, thus distributing and dissipating heat more efficiently.
