Why are leather seats getting a lot of hate here?

I’ve had leatherette on my previous Audis and Tesla and love it. Most people don’t realize that most car brands don’t offer real leather, even the luxury brands, unless you pay extra for Napa leather. The Tacoma was my first vehicle with cloth seats and I bought Clazzios within a week. The thing I hate the most about cloth is static. I hate shocking myself every time I get out and close the door.
For all those complaining about too hot/cold, it’s really not that bad. The positives of leather/leatherette outweigh the negatives.

Maybe in South Carolina, but here in Arizona, when its 118 degrees like this last week, leather sucks. It burns your back for the first 10-20 minutes of driving. The leather gets so hot you can't hardly sit on it. Cloth is much cooler when its really hot.

Meguiar's leather cleaner & conditioner. I usually just get the wipes personally.

I live in Minnesota but I don’t like seat heaters. They don’t get warm much faster than the heater and then they make my butt sweat.

IMO leather seats are way better if you have dogs you take with you. My old Boarder Collie (who's missing more and more teeth) will drool on everything. It really takes a toll on cloth, where leather you just wipe it away.

    https://www.griotsgarage.com/product/leather+care.do

I was recommended this by a retired army chemist that also worked for NATO. The man is always sending off his oil and filters for evaluation, and has owned a few 500k plus cars, so he studies and calls mfg's to get a little insight. He helped me save my 04 volvo's leather sets, and we made them look incredible for a car that lived it's whole life in the extreme southwest dry, hot/cold weather. The color was wearing off on usual spots and was about to crack through. He had me scuff up the leather then we used semi flat spray paint that matched the original color. The trick is to keep lathering the Griots Leather+Care until it stops soaking it in and just beads. I nearly went through two bottles on my v70. EVERYONE who looked at the car mentioned about how nice the seats were. Been doing this yearly on my wifes Odyssey. Newer leather wont soak as much so I usually get 2-3 application per bottle. This also works extremely well on oiled leather work boots.

It is that! But remote start and a sunscreen make it tolerable. Thank you @N2 Designs!

I got the cloth seats. I would have opted for leather, but I wasn’t interested in paying for the stupid moon roof. Getting the leather seats added another 5-7k to the trucks price. No thanks.

It's mostly people that couldn't afford it or didn't want to pay for it so they make up some reason to complain to make themselves feel better. It's an upgrade and worth every penny.

i do admit that i wish i had the goodies like leather, sunroof, parking sonar, cross lane assist, dual climate, when i bought my truck. they had all these options but not in standard. i wasnt gonna compromise and knowing me. when i want something...i want it now. i hate waiting lol. so i took the mt sport and i actually dont miss the creature comforts as much as i thought i would. if i want the amenities ill just drive the land yacht sequoia lol.

Well...in the 70's we wore leather pants in motocross... those things went through heck with mud water and the lot...kept them mink oiled and they out lasted lasted the "new nylon" pants.
Today I wear leathers to protect my hide on the track and street.
My TRD Pro has leather which was at the top of my list for a new truck.

In fact my old "leathers" from the 70's still look like new, I can't say that about any of my old Moto-X cloth gear.

Someone else who will understand the "fine Corinthian" reference!! And, a fellow TRD Pro owner - it was at the top of my list, too.

    Picture this if you will:
    Orange exterior
Black interior with orange trim and stitching
    Baby shit/butterscotch colored seats

No, just no. Maybe Toyota has diffrent colors for leather today but in 2017 I was not gonna pay $40k+ for a vehicle where the seats didn't match the rest of the interior. Would have looked like I had done a junkyard swap with the interior.

I know what a good looking color matching interior with leather can look like and in 2017 Toyota didn't have it. Here is Pontiac doing it right and only using 2 colors for their mid 2000's GTO (not my picture/car but I had the same color option on my 2006). Imagine if the seats had been brown instead?
