So you like driving old unsafe vehicles. Got it.

You could have found a vehicle with disc all around in 2009. Just not a Toyota.

2016 has drum brakes too?
I keep driving that truck because I use to after 9 years, I do disable ABS in winter. But my next truck will not have drum brakes. This is not Model T era.

Not required. In California I believe if it's 5k gvw or lower even if its a dual axle, on most trailers brakes will NOT be included from factory. Most people dont even know what trailer brakes are and definitely don't know they you need a brake controller to activate them even if your trailer is equipped. In a situation of a person towing a 4500 pound load with no brakes, which is legal in CA, a 2016 Colorado will stop in shorter distance in an emergency stop than a 2015 Tacoma. It will probably stop better than a 2016 Tacoma too, but lets wait and see if Toyota can pull a rabbit out of a hat. These are common sense and real world facts, what I don't understand is why it bends you out of shape so much.

    :der:
Neither of us created this test (http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2015/04/2015-midsize-challenge-results.html)
Neither of us made Tacoma be last one in that test.
Neither of us made Toyota to put the drums on 2016 truck.
Neither of us made 100 of companies work on tests that show drum brakes suck in emergency breaking especially loaded.
So you are angry at messengers, just because we point out of the obvious?

Or maybe you are angry with us that all you do is mall crawl ?:brianr:
Yes drum brakes are adequate.... for a mall crawler.

So the Tacoma is safe to drive. Drivers can adjust to how the vehicle handles. You were willing to purchase the Tacoma rather than other pickups that had discs on all fours.

I am fine with the brake system on the Tacoma. It will meet many drivers needs.

Yet you have stated with the new frame your Tacoma your in no hurry to get rid of vehicle with outdated not as safe brakes you make an issue of.

Negative, nobody can be worse than angry mall crawler who thinks he is pushign the limits of space and time on speedbumps...
I dont have to drive GM.
BTW my other two Toyota trucks have rear disc brakes.. Its just truck designed by seatbelt bracket mike that comes with drums again.
You and him may want to get together and see if that crawl control works down the slope of speed bump at nearest mall.

I will be seriously considering a new/newer truck within the next year. Having available disc brakes will definitely be low on my priority list and I won't base my decision on that. But the fact remains the Colorado outclasses the 2015 in that category. Hopefully the 2016 will be better for the sake of the people who will be buying it, who wouldn't want the best possible brakes available especially if they're paying so much for a vehicle? Did you know that some people actually use their mid size trucks for more than mall crawling? Just the other day I saw a 2nd gen with a little camper in the bed and towing a smallish trailer too. I wonder if that guy would want more braking power when hes heading down the Columbia River Gorge.....

    ahh shit.jpg

If Toyota isn't offering what you want, modify it to disc or move on!
This bitching about drum brakes isn't going to change a damn thing, my truck does what I need it to, if it didn't I'd buy something else!
    Moving on!

Man O Man! Some people have sand in their VeeJay! I accept change and like where they went with the Gen3. For all you that are yapping about the changes and lack of changes, most have no inclination to purchase a new truck in the next 4 years. For that I say.... change your Depends, get in your Buick and go to SoupPlantation with the rest of the old fogeys who dont like change! BTW, my DCLB TRD Sport will be here the first week of Sept! Time for some more popcorn!

Braking tests are bullshit. The 2012 Tacoma (2nd graph) has much better brakes than the 2015 Tacoma (1st graph). Wait but these guys measured it the 2015 at 143 feet, still longer than the 2012 but shorter than the 2015, and shorter than the Colorado.

The 2015 Canyons brakes are superior to the 2015 Colorado(1st graph).

The 2015 Frontier (1st graph) stops shorter than the 2012 frontier(2rd graph), on the other hand the 2012 Frontier(2nd graph) stops shorter than the 2012 Frontier(3rd graph).

Also worth noting that the 2012 Tacoma(2nd graph) has much better brakes than the 2012 Tacoma(3rd graph).

It's almost as if there is more to the braking distances than the brakes themselves.

My point is, if you can find a braking distance test where both vehicles have the same tires, or at least the same class of tires (both AT or both highway) then I'll take your stopping distance comparisons seriously. I'll even give you that all hard paved surfaces are close enough to be identical.

If you've got some other experiments that compare brake performance I'd like to see em.
