Why are most people disappointed?

I'm not disappointed because I'm happy with my '07.

What I am interested in, is the possibility of a few new bolt-in engine swap options.

Other swap possibilities include the bed and interior. Maybe Glassworks can make some bedsides that allow the new tail lights and tailgate to match up? Who knows.

...So lets get these things in the wrecking yards, come on people!

True but I still think the 2012-15 Tacoma was the best looking Tacoma Toyota ever produced.

I have sort of a gripe that the 3rd gen Tacoma front end is sort of a love child between 4runner and Tundra. I'm hoping they do what they did with the current gen 4runner and change up the front end in a a few years. I wouldn't have been mad if the Tacoma sported the same front end as the 4runner. Just not the love child that it seams to be. At least it has it's own
Identity. It's growing on me and I know I will probably get a boner for it as soon as I see one in person.

If it's like any other vehicle, I'm sure it will have slight changes over the years. Black chrome headlights, different tails, slight changes to front and so forth.

I think the go pro mount is kind of stupid, frankly I loved the 2012-2015 model year of tacoma I just wanted some updated features like an automatic rear window and some more power and better fuel economy .

He talking about the architecture of the frame and he mentioned the rust issue, but design wise the frame is solid.

I guess the most hated part is the grill. They are easy to "fix" . Otherwise, the truck's looks will depend upon how it performs.

It's planned obsolescence. Toyota wouldn't sell as many nice new shiny trucks if the old ones never rusted.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Because everyone on here except a select few bitch about anything that changes. People were like this when the second gens came out, and now look at how much everyone loves them. Same thing will happen to the new gen, just give it a couple years to evolve. I'd like to own one, but unless I can buy one outright, I am not giving up my first gen for one at all.

Getting back to original question, the people who are "disappointed" are perhaps just projecting failure before all the evidence Iis in. It's just human nature to reject change by some. Heck, 40% of us want no change at all...ever, 40% want to do something different all of the time, and 20% are just living their lives from day to day and dealing with real problems including economy that may be solved by a new Tacoma....like the pic. too.

We used to have a new model of just about every year back in the 60's and early70's.
That is what made cars collectible. Now all the vehicles look the same and models seem
to never change. We don't have a 72 Rally Nova or a 69 Superbee. We recognized cars
by model year not model. There will be very few Classic Cars for the future.

It is not cost effective to redesign a car every model year. Cars today are much more reliable, they last longer and have much more technology packed inside of them. Besides, Toyota sells boatloads of Tacomas. They are not going to be "rare" for a very, very long time.

I have several motorbikes and hang out at several model specific bike forums. Every time a new model appears to replace the current model, it's the same reaction.. "it's ugly, it sucks, what were they thinking, my bike will now be collectible..". etc.. I suppose no one likes to see their current vehicle become obsolete and surpassed by the new model.

I'm patiently waiting for the new models to hit the showroom. I'm in the market.

Still don't like it, and there's wisdom in not buying 1st yr of the new models.
They generally have the most issues, let alone no mods available right away...
And that big ass grill, with that stuck out lower lip bumper...
Long ass nose, reduces your angle of attack...:p

This is true for some member on here. That and as others have said, some people hate change. On the other hand, some people embrace change, and unrealistically expected bigger changes than appear to have happened. Still, others, such as myself, hoped for modest changes/upgrades and wanted a truck that looks good.

Personally, I was hoping for a truck with a decent improvement in fuel economy and a slight improvement in hp/tq. I also wanted an improved and updated interior. These things very well might be delivered by the new Tacoma. Still, I really can't get over the looks. Specifically, the underbite bumper and the protruding, blingy grill. My shocked disappointment in its appearance may wane over time, but I was hoping for a design that wouldn't require that.

This exactly, I love the offroad color, I love the rear tail and the new wheels that look like a tundra's and the interior is great, but the weird ending flares, the ugly giant huge gaped front end and weird underbite still cant get past, I look at the pictures almost everyday trying to love the look but that front is very undesirable/unattrative and the lines are all over the place. Give it a few years who knows. But to say everyone that dislikes it is acting ridiculous is also ridiculous, not all new designs are better/or better looking.

Don't forget the 2nd gen did evolve over 10yrs, maybe this 3rd gen may evolve into a better look over time, and aftermarket kits come out.
Still I prefer the '12-15 look...
