Why are rear shocks mounted on opposite sides of axle housing?

    Why are rear shocks mounted at an angle on opposite sides of axle housing?

    Every truck manufacturer does this from the factory.

    Why?

    yep all of the above. sometimes called axle binding.

    I've also heard it helps to minimize wheel hop.

    What happens then when people use shock relocation kits where both shocks are mounted on the same side of the axle housing? i.e. BAMF & Pelfrebilt shock relocation kits.

    I too would like to know that answer to the question above. I get lots of axle wrap with OEM setup dumping the clutch on dirt or sand front a stop or slightl roll.

    With those setups, people are usually using an aftermarket leaf packs which is much much stiffer than the wet noodle OEM leafs. It's not surprising you're getting lots of wrap with the stock setup because the leafs are just too weak to handle much of anything.

    I'm expecting some all pro standard springs sometime next week. Would like to run BAMF shock relocation kit to use some 12" kings with them.

    I was going to do the rear shock relocation kit, but in the end I decided to keep it simple.

    Maybe in 7 years I'll do another suspension upgrade.
