    This is stupid. Most of your points apply to a ground tent as well.

    Chances are I've camped in ground tents longer than you've been alive. After moving to a RTT I will never camp again.

    You say I'm drinking the cool aid all you want. But a rtt is easier to set up 100% and more comfortable 100%.

    Keep mine on because I actually use it on a regular basis ! Having racks made for my Tacoma as we speak and then I'll leave one I that too! Am I lazy ? Hardly :). Badge of honor ??? I don't get that statement so I'll leave it alone ....but it's a pretty strange statement just the same.
    So if I leave my racks on my truck is that a badge of honor too ?

    I just wrote a paragraph on when where and what to do with bacon !
    Then I reread it and....well it sounded kind of mean towards bacon !!! So I erased it.
    Someone might of read it and thought bacon was a metaphor for some type of someone. So I erased what was probably a Pulitzer Prize winning theory on bacon, and why guys don't sleep with bacon after consuming it for for hours. Even tho they enjoy some some fat nasty bacon at times they will never Ever let that bacon spend the night and see the very bright and revealing light of day. Lol
    Hmmmmmm maybe I'll pick up some bacon tonight lol

    I think some people might, yes. I currently have mine mounted (I've only had it a week and did use it already) because I don't plan on dragging it up three flights of stairs into my apartment. I'm honestly not sure what I'll do for storage, except for eventually putting it in the garage when we buy a house in a year or two.

    I've really enjoyed reading this thread the last few days. I recently got a RTT, and I have to say I love it. I've ground tent camped, hammock camped, 1971 Westfalia camped, slept in the sand in a sleeping bag camped, etc all my life. I still love it. I have a good quality 4 season ground tent that sets up in under 5 minutes, and decent sleeping mats.

    That said, I'm just tired of waking up in the rain in New England and packing up a muddy ground tent. I did a 9700 mile overland trek around the country a little while back and wish I would have had the RTT then. I've been woken up by animals prodding the tent more times than I can count, and while I recognize the RTT won't keep a hungry bear out, it will at least keep me slightly above most curious animals.

    I was thinking about my camp step up for awhile now

    And as stated some where in this thread I think I'm gonna get the bed bars and mount a platform on the bars to prop a tent on

    I'll buy one of them things at Wally world or crappy tire can't think of the name of them it's a canopy type of thing I'll set up the tent on the bed then back the truck up into the canopy it should keep the rain away from the tent

    What will be next? AC units and hot tubs inside those RTTs? :D

    Both sides of the argument have valid points. I get it that some people want to be as comfortable as possible and they spend their money accordingly. On the other hand, a great deal of comfort can be achieved with minimal things as well with a good quality ground tent.

    Personally, I will always find other things to spend a thousand plus dollars than on a RTT. To each his own.

    Your right to each there own :). That Rtt is truly worth it's weight in gold. When the ground dwellers are at home in the winer months or are picking up wet muddy tents and bags I'll be flipping the Tepui or hitting the switch on the J barod ;).
    Here's one that will kill ya. I have a 13 gallon fresh water tank built into my jeep and will be doing the same on the taco for hot showers !
    Fridge stove combination with slider :) .
    Etc....
    If you sleep well eat well and can cleanup your days out will be that much more fun!

    no one pice of gear covers every single task...

    like most people who are gear junkies and love using gear, gotta have multiple pieces of gear...

    ground tents roof tents, foam pad inflatable bad full blown air mattresses, trucks sedans wagons vans convertible

    Ripped off all four mudflaps. Scratches all down both sides 6112’s up front on 3rd notch 5100’s in back with Toytech 1” block Skids & sliders from SOS Concepts I got rid of the 1” block and put on Wheelers 1 1/2” progressive AAL. SPC UCA. Be sure your standing on the drivers side when reading the instructions! I swapped sides so many times that I can swap UCA’s in 15 minutes. I put in the 3/4” spacer to eliminate the Taco Lean, and just got my 4th alignment. Traded the OEM rims for 17” Sport rims and a bora bora 1” spacer. I got my Firestone 285/70/17 MT2’s. Pelfreybilt gas tank skid and hi-lift jack should be here Friday. Looking at bumpers, but I think they will wait for next year. So far I’m happy with my build. I’ve done it all myself, leading to a lot of cussing and frustration, but it’s all mine.
