I don't hate it. I'm just disappointed in the outcome of the overall product.

The 2nd Gen seemed to hit that sweet spot of being a tough Toyota truck that wasn't too big but was durable, strong, and practical for most average needs/wants. It proved itself for ten years and when news of an updated version came, many had high hopes.

For me, I have been in and around a few 2nd gens. I fit in them well (I'm 6'4") and when I decided to move into the truck world, thought that this was the best choice. After learning they were releasing the 3rd gen, I figured why not wait and get into this latest. After test driving and much research....not sure what I will do except maybe get into a used 2nd gen.

    Positives:

-Overall looks (minus the chrome cheese grater grill. The SR and limited grill should be on all models...in my opinion).
    -Technology
    -Road Noise
    -Slight gain in MPG's
    -Crawl Control for the off-roaders

    Negatives:

-Gained 40 hp but lost 1 lb-ft of torque...makes very little sense to me why you wouldn't focus on additional low end torque on a truck (when VW released the updated GTI [no need for diesel comments here...], they updated the 2.0 liter and only gave it an additional 9-19 hp depending on package, but improved the torque by nearly 40 lb-ft!)
-Added roughly 5 inches in overall length....why??
-Kept the non-functional hood scoop....at least make it functional or remove it...maybe even make it an option for those who like it?!
-SR versions paint...or lack of is terrible.
-Added a moonroof? If so, make it a solo option since headroom was sacrificed for such an unnecessary item in a pick-up
-Lowered the overall roof line....I think?!?
-No updates to seating adjustments or positions
-Additional price increase. I know it's new but pushing 40K for nicely equipped Tacoma seems a bit too much.
-And other misc. items like removal of "Oh Sh!t" handles and seat pouches, Bilstein shocks, etc.

Seems there were some great additions but also feels like they could have done quite a bit better after such a long period between generations. Toyota pick-ups fill many niches for the everyday person. With the advent of the Tacoma, whether you were young, old, had a lot of money or a little, you could get into a pick-up that would easily go to the grocery store or school, or to the mountains or mud pits on the weekends.

I don't think they're the worst thing out there and they're definitely not a POS. Just think they could have done a lot more with a few small changes.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

Always thought Stan Van Gundy (former Miami Heat head coach) was more of Ron Jeremy lookalike.
