wow... yes people care. thats why there is a push for it with every make and model possible. Toyota didnt care because they knew people would blindly follow brand names. And yes, there are some pretty efficient trucks on the market today. They just dont have have the toyota emblem on the front so the sheep ignore it.

I actually had a great experience with mine this past weekend, going through the mountains of Vermont. I mean a few times the rpms really had to climb to keep speed, but overall it was fairly constant considering the hills i had to climb going 75ish. I went about 100 miles like that.

People don't want to change their lifestyle just to get better gas mileage.

Especially when gas is anywhere from 1.50-$1.85.

    Yup.

    I can't tow my trailer with a 4cyl, and I can't go down back roads backpacking with a 5lug.

I swear some of the members here must work or are invested in Toyota, they have a solution or a smart answer to every issue..

Well I for one am ok with it, highway trip yesterday over 200 miles and got over 23 mpg, only complaint was the cruse that, as others have mentioned, when it shifted down on hills seemed to hang and keep the rpm's way up even after cresting the hill. Solution was I took it off cruise and just drove it the way I normally would and would hope the cruse would have.

[IMG] Got 26 on hilly backroads- averaging about 55 mph. I think the gas mileage is pretty great for a 4x4 pickup. Anything over 70mph really hurts it though. Luckily- sort of- I live in a rural state and a lot of my driving is 55mph.

You're right. Toyota could do more to increase efficiency on their most popular variations of the Tacoma but it is what it is for now. I can't grasp why people go ahead and buy a truck as a daily driver if fuel efficiency is a deal breaker.

I didn't join to make friends, I joined because I'm displeased with Toyota and was looking for answers, people get upset and disrespectful when you comment about a vehicle.

Come on guys. It's just a forum. It's opinions, not right or wrong. All driving styles and terrains differ which is why there are so many different experiences and opinions. But there is no denying that a lot of people have the same complaints.

But on another note, I may have just fixed my overdrive problem. I just installed a Toyota polished stainless steel exhaust tip. I'm hoping the added HP does the trick!

Absolutely great point, and to think of the kind of truck you can get for only $10-20,000 more than a Tacoma. You'd be an idiot to pick up a Tacoma when for only 30-55% more money you can get a truck with worse reliability, worse resale value, and the ground clearance of a commuter car!

Yeah but you'll get 10% better fuel economy! So what if the fuel costs more? How can you lose?
