I guess I just felt like with a smaller engine and new transmission (which feels nutless) combined with Toyota hanging their hat on "Improved Fuel Economy" for marketing slogan that we'd be seeing a more significant improvement in efficiency but the Fuelly numbers tell the real story here.

Not an issue for me! It seems when I have sheet metal in the back I get better mileage :)

After reading this thread I have to ask am I going to be stuck with under 20 on the freeway with my 2016 4x4 OffRoad? Thats about the best I've seen so far (2500 miles). I'm satisfied with the 16-a8 around town but I expected a real 22+ on the freeway. Still runnnig stock tires, am I going to suffer more with 285/16's next time around?

    Of course you are.

Bigger tires, more weight, more rotating mass.

You'll drop MPGs from the tire change alone.

It doesn't really matter if it's a V8 or 6 or I4. It takes a certain amount of energy to overcome aerodynamic drag and losses intrinsic to a truck's drive system. The only difference between the cylinder arrangement is potential consumption with a larger displacement and friction losses due to more components in motion.

It takes 25-35hp to move a truck on the freeway on flat and level ground, it's all down how efficient a given engine makes that power. Many V8's today are almost as efficient at making that power as a V6. Regardless of full-sized or mid, weight has little to do with freeway mileage, it's all down to drag and drive losses.

If you drive 55mph with stock set up you should be over 20. If you drive over 65 mph no.

People are far more forgiving here. Plenty of older drivers who are not in a hurry to get anywhere. When one moves to the South, one quickly realizes people are in no hurry here at all' Life slowed down a lot when we moved here....from Las Vegas and San Diego before that

Whenever I get passed on a double yellow on a 45 MPH road , the plates are usually from the north

When I moved back to Phoenix from Los Angeles I felt like I was going to constantly be run off the road. People drive fast in AZ.

Nobody tries to run me off the road in CO driving 60 in a 75, never even a honk. Semis are also driving around that and aren't getting pushed off the road either.

Spent plenty of time in Colorado Springs. People drive under the speed limit there too.
