Why buttons and knobs on the center console like a car?

Discussion in '4th Gen. Tacomas (2024+)' started by yotadust, Apr 24, 2025.

?

3rd Gen vs 4th Gen front cabin (not considering the 4th gen's seat height and head room fixes)

  1. 3rd gen is more tougher

  2. 4th gen is more tougher

    I think you mean sexist..

Men are more consistent in their behavior, men are more capable of being direct
Women are more often petty and deliberately irrational

This has nothing to do with intelligence - it has everything to do with innate biological attributes...
You cannot deny that those things exist

Male dogs, when they are pissed at you, you know .. and they just grump around till they get over it
Female dogs will get spiteful and go piss in your office days or weeks later - they hold a grudge [not cool]

I've had several male bosses who were consistent shitheads.
I've also had several female bosses who were deliberate shitheads.

I can't say which kind was the most satisfying to hand in my resignation letter. Both. Definitely both.

I wish my truck had the hand brake like my son's 2005 has. I've never cared for the left foot push down ratchet-type brake. Can't push it a little/partially or modulate it and leave it there. Past a certain point it's all or nothing: application or release. I hope I never have to use it underway at speed. I like the brake on the console or the side of the tunnel right next to me.

If my Subaru sense I am on an incline or decline, it will hold the brakes on until you let the clutch out enough to overcome gravity. I only use the handbrake for parking.

New manual Tacomas have a similar brake hold feature, so it isn't even really needed on them either. Electric works fine for parking even if I agree that it is something I simply do not need.

I was mostly commenting on the boat ramp scenario. Hand brakes are extremely handy when you are feathering a clutch pulling a boat and trailer up a slick wet ramp. Especially a 2wd truck.

I don’t recall ever using one while driving up a ramp in 4wd with an auto.

    C'mon. It's only four pages.

Real members will claim that you aren't a real member of TW until you've read the entirety of the unicorn sticker thread. It's only a short 226 pages currently.

Of course, nobody recommends that you read the entirety of the Whatever thread, though there are a few brave fools that have tried. It's currently at twenty eight thousand four hundred pages, and counting.

Four pages. Pfft. That's not even a pre-friday thread.

    I agree 100%

We have a manual Cayenne and a manual Bronco, both with electronic e-brakes. Hate it.

Meh. Unless you're doing a handbrake turn to impress teenagers, they aren't necessary. One should be able to heel-toe it off a hill. I also haven't found a modern manual that doesn't have hill start hold. THAT I hate. Ive learned to start hills in neutral I hate it so much.

And what do you have for a manual with electronic e-brake?

I don't. My manual has a hand brake. I use it to park the car and that's it.

So you have no real frame of reference.

The biggest issue is there is no visual cue it’s engaged. They both have the same style button, but one is push to engage and the other is pull to engage. My wife gets them mixed up sometimes and I’ll jump in, put the clutch it and turn the key and I’m rolling backwards before I realize.

I find that highly surprising. Right now I only own one e-brake, and it's equipped on an automatic. It engages as soon as you kill the ignition, whether you push the button or not. You have to release it every time you start the car and put it in gear. That was supposed to be the point of ebrake, I thought.

This is my current stick. There are only two annoyances with it. 1] If I have bad posture while downshifting to second, the radio will mute. I've learned not to do that. 2] The only place to rest one's hand while cruising are on the brake (bad), on the knob (worse), or in one's lap (creepy).
