Why can't I buy painted pieces from dealership?

If or when you get the bumper cover painted make sure they match it up to the matching paint chip. There are many different shades of the 040 white since it has been out so long. If your local dealership has a inhouse body repair facility they should have all the paint chips to match up to your truck.

 

Why would it cost more? They still have to prep a new bumper and your paying for the part on top of that.

 

Check Sewell Toyota/Lexus. I Know they sell painted Lexus bumpers.

You can strip and paint it. Body shops will offer new bumper instead of strip and paint, because of labor cost of stripping the bumper exceeds cost of new.

Prep of new bumper is wash with soap and water, scuff, bonding agent and paint. Not much labor.

 

Yes but they would be taking time to remove old paint from the existing bumper before repainting (if we go with the question of repainting the existing bumper).

 

They don't have to strip it all they have to do is sand out any chips and prime it and if its in good shape all they have to do is wet sand the clear.

 

They will strip it, for the reason if there is fine cracks in paint ( not to the naked eye) you will be see them after it's painted.

 

I work at an auto body shop all they will do is wet sand the clear if its in good shape but if there is chips from rocks they will sand it with a d.a. and prime it then paint it. Ive never heard of fine cracks in paint that you can see after its repainted unless you are talking about sand scratches from not preping it with fine enough sand paper

 

Op, said it was hit and run damage. Not rock chips in clear

 

Didnt see that op my suggestion would be to go to a body shop and see if the bumper can be fixed if not get an oem bumper and have them paint it for you

 

Car-part.com it's site all the junkyards list there parts on. Just get a used one already painted. Screw the dealership.

 

I bought a painted metal tailgate skin from ebay when it was damaged at my job.
I gave my vin# and they matched it very well.
