Previous owner used to haul heavy loads, so he put an AAL on it and TRD front suspension with a lift and custom rear suspension for added weight capacity. I recently installed a tow package (Curt with lifetime warranty) So i will definitely see what this thing can handle as far as weight goes.
All along this entire thread when i used the letters TRD to mean the suspension that is on it now. because it is not stock base model suspension. I should have just called it modded. Though it is Toyota bilstein. but without the features the standard factory made Toyota racing development featured trucks have. Like lockers, Ac outlet, traction control, E.t.c I'm not a moron. I know the difference. I test drove them all day before i decided to go with mine for the deal of 13,500 and only 68,000 miles.

Sounds to me like you meant the whole truck.

Seriously, it would be better to admit that you may have been mistaken, rather than try to cover it up by saying "my writing is deceptive". We were all noobs at one time and have said dumb things. I'm still a Tacoma noob, and I can admit it.
If you want to bring it back to factory specs and a more normal ride, lose the AAL, and find coils for the front with a lower spring rate. If you check the buy/sell/trade thread, lots of people sell off their stock factory suspension. Pretty cheap too.
    Good luck

Thanks, I will admit I do not own a trd tacoma. I own a base with some added suspension modifications similar to that of a trd in the front. for the back, I think it was just modded that way to handle heavy loads without sag. I am waiting for my trailer hitch to get here from uhaul, then this weekend I will be helping someone move using the bed and a loaded trailer. If I feel the AAL helps me, I'll keep it and not put the time and cash into removing them. If it makes no difference, then I'll consider just doing away with em. I do however plan to get a camper trailer pretty soon. A good sized one. Not a huge one, but medium. Maybe 9 or ten foot with an extended hitch to balance the weight a little more onto the trailer not the tongue. I just bought a 5-1\4 inch drop hitch I hope its enough. The ass end of my truck is pretty high.

Also. For anyone who was confused, I never said my writing was deceptive, I said it was descriptive. someone said they were only reading key words and did not read the original post. Then made judgements without knowing what I was asking\talking about. I admit completely my truck is not TRD. That wasn't the point of this post. If it was, I would entitle the post "Is My Truck A TRD?" I made this thread to see if what the previous owner had done is something that is normal or circumstacial. Or if special orders are still going on. I saw in another post that they stopped special orders a few years ago, and another that said they are still happening in some places. Now I know that next time I. Will not refer to my suspension as trd because that confuses people. Because the pictures show a truck that is very obviously not a TRD. Sorry I confused you guys. I'll just say modded from now on and take a lesson.

pretty easy to do it yourself, i'm pretty mechanically retarded, but i figured it out with tons of help from this forum, that way u can take it off try it out, and if you want it back, put it back without spending any money, only takes like 2 hrs once u know what you're doing

I look forward to learning a lot from this forum. I am mechanically inclined, I've been in and around shops since I was little. My parents owned an 8 bay service and smog station in san diego for 20 years. I just don't want to dig into something I've never done without knowing for sure I won't reach any complications where I need to call in someone who's done it and have them charge me. I really want to see if when I have lots of weight what the ride would be like as is, if I don't like it still, I'll do my looking around and probably uninstall the extra leaf. Would I have to do anything to the front when I did that? The front is just standard coilover with yellow billies.

How level does your truck sit, the front and back are pretty independent suspension wise so u don't have to do anything to the front. With that being said, from the factory the back is usually 1ish inches higher in the back, so if your back is still 1ish inches higher in the back than u prob have around a 2ish spacer up front, if your back is currently like 3ish inches taller than you are prob stock up front, if you are sitting level you are prob about 3 inches up front and if u take out tha leaf, u might want to remove that spacer

Nobody's telling you not to be happy with your truck, more power to you. But when you say you can't go up a driveway without gritting your teeth, that tells me that the suspension was poorly selected by someone who did NOT know what he was doing. Trucks that are properly modified with different leaf packs for more load capacity don't ride like the springs are made of cinderblocks. And the original owner couldn't have opted for a TRD edition regardless of what options he wanted, they do not offer them with either regular cabs or the 2.7 motor.

I'm guessing the dealer didn't tell you a lot of things. When they tell you it's normal that your clutch rattles and the terrible suspension was "custom ordered" by TRD, it's to sell you the truck with a minimum amount of effort.

Again, I'm not telling you that you can't enjoy your truck. Tacomas are awesome trucks regardless of the configuration. But I'm saying that it's far more likely that you bought a truck that the previous owner had modified, rather than a new variant from Toyota.

My bad. And yeah, its very confusing writing. If you want people to read and understand your posts, try to be more concise ;)

Like I said, the shocks are from a heavier vehicle. And the extra leaf doesn't help, I know the configuation isn't the best it could be right now. I plan on having this truck until the day it dies. So I have 30+ years to get it the way I want it. The salesperson is who told me the clutch was fine. I knew when I got it something was up. The service department there is very helpful and genuine. They replaced the clutch without question. And I made a friend! Service dept told me what they could on the suspension based on the history. They also referred me to a salesperson with morals for next time I buy a vehicle there. I also got a 62 dollar credit there for them accidentally charging me like ten bucks for something.

What I want eventually is a setup that is forgiving on the road, soft enough that potholes and dips won't be an issue, that is still off road compatible for when I feel like hitting a trail or taking my dirt bike out somewhere where there are rocks and ruts everywhere.

I turned the 62 dollars into a full tank of gas at the dealer today. Booh yah. A ten buck tank. I'm happy.

Later on in life i will probably pass it down, like many other toyota owners. Hopefully it lasts as well as the old toyos. I know they were built stronger back then, But Ive seen 2nd gen tacos with 240,000 and are still going strong. Not sure if they were manual or auto, not sure how having a manual will affect my longevity.
