Why can't Toyota sell the helux in the US. The rest of the world gets them. What do we get the tacoma, it's the same with motorcycles. All the rest of the world gets the trick stuff and we don't. I would so love a small diesel motor getting like 30mpg in my 3rd gen. I would gladly spend 40k plus on that.
The 3rd gen is a strange bird, unlike any car or truck I have ever driven. For how gutless it is you would expect to get a little better mileage...Right.

It all has to do with tax on certain type of products such as that.

I agree. The aftermarket parts companies would make a killing and it would probably create jobs in the US if they did sell Hilux here

    Like, so many.
I've driven the Hilux. I honestly prefer the Tacoma and don't understand the hype for the Hilux.

Because here in North America (and Europe) we still pretend the earth is saveable and our govt agencies and politicians impose the most random taxes on anything emitting carbon.

Now in South America, Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe, they just don't gaf.

Because Toyota doesn’t want to make America compliant Diesel engines. America is very strict with Diesel engines

It also could be the regulations, safety, that does not meet America’s requirements? I am sure Toyota wants to sell only one models?
Also maybe because of the left hand drive vs right hand drive? You can get Diesel engines in the Hilux but not in America? Maybe smog regulations?

There is a company in USA, that will covert any Toyota tacoma with a Diesel engine, if you are will to pay almost over $27,000 dollars? I saw a video and there are a few willing to pay the cost?

Has to do with emissions on diesel vehicles (I assume you want the diesel Hilux as its the only big difference between the two). Even though the diesel has less emission than the gas.....

Does toyota build their cars in the US or do they license some other entity to build them here. It just seems like the quality of the US built tacoma is lacking.

Why would toyota introduce a truck that would compete with the Tacoma when the Tacomas are already selling like hotcakes?

As I understand it, the Hilux won't pass North American safety standards. Not to mention they'd ding CAFE standards for Toyota.

Fixing all that would mess up pricing big time.

I have experienced about a 10 yo model with the turbo that has the inter cooler on top of the engine, transforming the Tacoma skewp into a function scoop. Mated with a 5 speed, it was a nice ride on and off road.

the tacoma IS the hilux under the body, just the hilux can have the diesel. So this thread is mostly why no diesel Tacoma. and its because of dumb emission laws.
