We have dealers here that have lifetime warranty as well, but it's through the dealer and not Toyota. You have to have the vehicle serviced by the dealer to keep it valid and it's only good at that dealer.

The 36k / 60k warranty is good nationwide and you can do routine maintenance yourself without voiding it.

True, it's only valid at that dealership. However, it is not a "Captive Maintenance" plan whatsoever, at least mine in TN. As long as you can prove maintenance, if asked, you're golden.

That's good to know. I thought the ones offered around here wanted you to have the major service done by the dealer to satisfy the warranty. But I could be wrong as I've never gotten one and only heard second hand info.

The place I got mine at doesn't offer the lifetime warranty. But they do give you free oil changes, free state safety and emissions inspections, and free 30k service when you buy a vehicle from them.

As you've already learned, that off-color remark is tough to swallow. ;)

Yeah, it's just participating dealerships, and they will lead you to believe that they have to service it, but fine print says otherwise. I believe (and hope) most states protect consumers from captive maintenance warranties. :)

Mongo, welcome to TW and congrats on the new Tacoma!! I was born in (the former) Newnan hospital, and grew up just down the road in Moreland. I'm also a new Tacoma owner, been eyeballing these things for quite a while!

Bought a 2015 access cab 4x4 manual 4 cyl in Dec. Also came from a Chevy Colorado regular cab 4x4 4 cyl 5sp. Had a lot of issues with the Colorado over the years that seemed to be common, but Chevy did absolutely nothing to correct them. Test drove the new colorado, but the tacoma was several thousand less and I was skeptical about buying the first year model. The tacoma is world's better than my colorado in almost every way. The only thing the Colorado had going for it was I was consistently getting over 22 mpg. Tacoma only has 2000 miles on it, and it's winter, but I am only averaging around 18. At the rate I was throwing money into maintenance of my Colorado, I can deal with a few less mpg over reliability.

Far out! You are a long way from home in TX.
How did you end up there? Job, woman or you just like TX?

Winter gas sucks. Your MPG should get better with the summer blend. I have yet to burn a whole tank so I don't know what the MPG is yet. If I get 20 MPG I'll be a happy camper. :cookiemonster:
"The tacoma is world's better than my colorado in almost every way" You can say that again!!!

My 2015 Sport also came with the dealer offered life time warranty. Yep, read the fine print and you must be able to "document" scheduled maintenance, keep receipts for self maintenance and work done elsewhere. Confirmed this with my selling dealer. I am now keeping a folder for all receipts. Actually a pretty good deal If you keep vehicles a long time. Cannot be transferred.
