I got the Limited because it has pretty much all of the on-road options. I didn't know at the time that I would start going off road (which I did start doing a few months ago). I have lifted it with Eibach coilovers and changed the wheels and tires.

If I were doing it again today, I would probably just pony up the cash for the Pro. Its got everything in the Off Road, as well as the Limited (maybe not everything, but the most equipment you can get that applies to both).

Interesting as when I purchased my 2018 TRD Sport I visited 5-6 Toyota dealerships within a 150 mile radius of my home and every lot probably had 12-15 Sports to every 1 OR. All the salespeople said the same thing "we stock what we sell the most of". Must be a regional thing.

The most off-road I do is gravel hunting trails, and the 4W high handles that just fine. I do kind of wish I had a locker though...

I went with the Nightshade option because the stock limited has a bit of an old man vibe to it. Not bad, but not my style.

Of that <50%, I'd bet at least half of those consist of people who missed an exit and drove across the grassy area to get to the service road.

Maybe just the dealerships you visited? No idea what part of VA you are in but Google spit out Koons Toyota in VA which shows 36 OR and 26 Sport in current inventory.

I keep my trucks for over ten years. I had my second gen sport for 13. I buy them as loaded as possible, so I can enjoy all the creature comforts for those 10+ years. When I started pricing trucks, a fully loaded sport was almost the same price as a limited. But the limited had, in my opinion, nicer looking wheels, I hate the sport wheels, and Michelins, which I am a huge fan of. The limited also has Homelink for my garage door. Plus, I got glare off the skewp on my second gen, so wasnt a fan of the glare. And I do bowhunt, but mainly get to drive on shallow mud and or gravel, so didnt need the OR. And dont like the black fender flares anyway, so that was out of the question.

    Check build thread!
I bought an offroad because I live in an area of 75% dirt roads and some are unmaintained, as well as living on a farm where i get a lot of snow, so a locker is very useful when pulling trailer thru deep/heavy snow. Also I like black fender flairs.

I bought a limited because I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Our MDX left us stranded in Idaho (330 miles from home) and I had to transport my family of 4 home and then drive to Bend Oregon (395 miles from home) within about 72 hours of our MDX stranding us. I went to the local Toyota dealer and looked at a TRD Sport, Tundra, Chev 1500. While I was walking the lot with a friend the truck I bought was being traded in. I wasn't happy with the cloth interior on the Sport and wasn't sold on the idea of a full size truck. Having driven the truck for 1600 miles in just over 3 weeks I think a full size truck would now be a non-issue. I have always been a car guy and the idea of going from a small car to a full size truck seemed like a big jump at the time.

I went with the Limited for a few reasons. I liked the birds eye view camera option and you couldn’t get that in other models, also almost all of my driving is on pavement. The limited is more than enough to handle light to medium off road driving. I can always update suspension and tires later down the road if need be.

I really like the TRD PRO, however they had a $7,000 dealer markup (non-negotiable). It would have cost $53K+

I was also looking at a TRD Sport w/6’ bed and loaded with options. I ultimately chose to go Limited Nightshade.

I installed the TRD Performance Exaust and TRD Air Filter myself, for much cheaper than if I added it at purchase.

    Beautiful truck

i am pretty sure birds eye PVM can be had in Sport as well

I know my OR has the MTM view camera

both these require the advanced tech package

Maybe so. The dealer said otherwise. The only Tacoma’s on the lot that had Bird's eye view cam were Limited.

Also, the Limited had negotiating room. The TRD Sport and Off-Road didn’t. They actually had $3,000 markups on the full retail sticker.

With these insane $3,000 and $7,000 markups
You can just save that cash, get a Limited negotiated down another $1,500-$2,500
And then add custom struts, springs, tires, skid plate, rock slider, etc... later

Disclaimer** of course I live in the socialist republic of California. You guys may not be having the price problems I have here. It’s terrible.

My CA dealer also told me toyota doesn’t make 7570 (sr5 DCLB 4x4)

    they lie.

I bought the limited mainly cause it had every option that I wanted, and I dont do a ton of off-roading. I actually really like the chrome accents and the matching colored bumpers/fenders and the 18" rims look really sharp too IMO. I love my cement color and I have friends tell me I need to black out everything and get rid of the chrome and I feel its soooo over done. I dont want my truck to look like everyone elses. :notsure:

Similar to others, I bought my '18 limited because I liked the options and the hickory leather. I also liked the Barcelona Red color and I got a fairly good deal on it from the dealer.
