I have needed 4wd once in a little over a year. No since in paying for something you don't use. I have taken my prerunner plenty of places a regular truck wouldn't be able to go. And as a sidenote the one time i did get stuck I would probably blame it on the stock dunlops more than the truck.

choice wasnt completely mine although i paid for about half of my truck, my dad surprised me with it for 18th b-day/graduation. first off this is my first truck so didnt want to pay the extra money or the wear a tear of the 4x4. I dont off road more then a dirt road here and there. personally i just dont like the way the regular 4x2 sits and didnt feel like learning to drive stick to get an x-runner. plus it gets a hair better mpg then 4x4. just fits my needs perfect, o and i have a landscaping business so wanted something that could handle anything i need for that.

I really wanted a 4x4, but i got the prerunner b/c they didn't have any and at first was under the impression that they didn't make the TRD sport prerunner in 4x4. Now I'm looking to trading it in pretty soon. I know, I'll probably have to eat some cost, but going over the #'s, it's really not that bad. Seeing as how these Tacoma's really hold their value. Anyways, I like both and I've only ever owned 4x4's for the past 7 yrs.

Well up until this year, we hardly get any snow in TN, and when it does snow, I usually don't get out in it. I don't off-road, and basically I just didn't need it. There's times I think I'll probably regret not getting it, but, for a first truck, at age 19, I think its pretty damned good. Plus, again I'm 19, I couldn't afford it really. lol
Gotta admit though, I got the best dad in the world. Helluva birthday gift.

The only thing I dont understand is why the PreRunners have the Off-Road badging. I wouldnt buy a prerunner to go off roading so why say it? JMO

prerunners are made for the person who wants the look of a 4x4 truck(sits higher, bigger tires, off road badging...etc) but doesnt need 4wd

also just remembered i believe the Long travel guys love them and desert racing so theres a good enough a reason for having offroad on the side.

Off Roading can void your warrenty so why put an Off Road badge at all.

Yes it is, don't beat around the bush.

What "Off-Road badging"?? I've never seen a prerunner that said off road on it...

I got a 2010 Pre to replace a problem child '95 F-150. It looked damn good but after pampering and babying, it literally started falling apart from inside out at about 100k miles. I'm not one to change and jockey from truck-to-truck, but liked the Pre ever since I can remember seeing one and wanted something that wasn't constant maintenance or falling apart after 100k miles...if I took good care of it, it would take good care of me...and I think I've got that now.

Everyone has TRD off road on the bedsides. I understand the look and stance and the reason if I didnt live in NY and need 4x4 I would have looked at them.
Ahh come to think about it there are plenty of guys on here that go off roading I forget about cali and the sand since I never done that.

Dont need 4x4 in San Diego. Wasnt planning on wheeling (even though I do occasionally). BUT i like the look of a taller truck.. dont really want a small one. My prerunner has done some pretty awesome stuff for it just being taller. One capable truck.

Mainly the cost, had I had the money it would be 4x4.

Second, I was about to buy an access cab 4x4 but with my son having to ride with me and the possibility of others I choose to spend the money on the double cab and forgo the 4x4 once again. One day money won't be the issue and I will get my 4x4 double cab. NO regrets with my Prerunner.

A combination of cost and the fact that I live in Texas.

Although we have gotten snow twice in the last two weeks! Damn global warming

I bought the lame Prerunner because I couldn't find a 4x4 that was in good condition and I got my locked prerunner for 18k. I'm still kicking myself in not having a 4x4 or an FJ. :(

hahaha global warming doesnt mean its always warm everywhere allllll the time! Its a general "overall, temps are rising"

Doesnt mean snow is extinct! ;) ahhaha

My truck was so much cheaper cause of it.. and i dont miss it. if i lived where the globe wasnt warming - i'd have 4x4 ;)

Couldn't afford a 4x4 2nd gen. I could have bought a 4x4 1st gen but I preference the larger size and cabin of the 2nd to the first, which was more of a priority than 4x4. I'm still happy with my Prerunner though I would love to have a 4x4.
