As President and Co-Founder of the Official Prefontaine Fan Club, I chose to get the limited edition version that was named after him.

No snow where I'm from and if I had 4wd I would just end up messing up my truck. PreRunner mallcrawlin FTW!

A Prerunner has the suspension height of a 4x4 but doesn't have 4x4 drivetrain components. 2 wheel drive truck on a 4x4-like suspension. Gives better ground clearance than a stock 2WD but doesn't have all the weight and complexity associated with a front transfer case, diff etc. Granted you still only have 2WD so just because it's taller than the other 2WD trucks that doesn't mean you should go jump it off into a mud bog.

Simply take a 4x4 truck, remove the transfer case/front differential and front driveshafts, then put a plug over the hole in the wheel spindle. You have a more rugged and capable 4x2 that doesn't look like you inherited it from grandpa.

Wow, I've never seen so much Prerunner love in one place without a bunch of spew from folks talking trash because 4x4s are "better". Nicely done, TW!

It was a pretty simple choice for me. I didn't need a four wheel drive vehicle because by work vehicle is 4wd. At the same time, I do take the truck off road on the ranch and while doing recreational stuff very regularly. A pre-runner was perfect for my situation. It would take the abuse that a 5 lugger wouldn't like to be put under, without any issues, and at the same time was less expensive, lighter, and got slightly better fuel mileage than the 4wd Tacoma that I didn't need.

Because that's what my parents bought me... Plain and simple. Though now I somewhat wish I had a 4x4.

No, I'm just a goofy jerk. LOL. Prefontaine was a runner. Pre + Runner = PreRunner

My prerunner has gotten me where I need to go (even through mud) and I really like the stance that Toyota gave it. Also less insurance and maintenance.

No need for a 4x4 where I live which is less than 5 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. I have been on the beach and went thru some pretty nasty stuff to see if I could get it stuck and no problem. I think it all boils down to the drivers skills and commen sense in these types of conditions. A 4x4 would have been nice to have but just couldn't justify it. A buddy of mine had a 4x4 and locked his in on dirt roads just to keep it from locking up because he never had the need for it. I guess I learned from him as well as other buddy's that it wasn't really needed. Just my 2cents..

I know who Pre was, was just baffled there'd be a truck model for him... especially in Texas. An MG maybe but that would probably be in poor taste.

But then again I've heard of a couple of LE offerings in Texas that weren't available elsewhere so I had to ask.

This is SC, I have no need for 4X4. It's my daily driver and if I were into offroading I wouldn't use my DD for such things, I'd buy a second truck for cheap that I could beat on.

I had a certain amount to spend. I had to choose between a V6 Prerunner and an I4 4x4. I decided I would use the power of the V6 every day, but I would only use the 4x4 a few times a year.

If I had stumbled over $5k in a brown paper bag on the way to the dealership, I would have bought the same truck with the 4x4 OR package.

I'm happy with the choice I made.
