Why did you choose a 2nd gen over a 3rd gen?

To be honest i have owned my 2nd gen for about 3 weeks now love it but my opinion my 93 will smoke the 08 through some rocky trails. But than again it has arb lockers front n rear with 4.56 gears, dakar springs. Only thing i wish it had a bigger motor the 3.slow is not fun on the highway.

Down low, the Gen2 has 2 or 3 times the torque of the Gen3. The peak hp and torque numbers on paper are for marketing purposes.
Try this: Hook your truck up to a heavy trailer load with substantial tongue load and in 2H on dry pavement put the pedal to the floor and let me know what happens... if anything. This is a test of balls.

Guys who cares this is so over debated. Be secure in what you drive. It's Christmas we should all get along. Each truck has it's pros and cons.

2nd gen is good for doing man stuff and taking chicks home. 3rd gen is great for going to the nail salon, gynecologist, spa.

I've towed a trailer with both. The 4.0 is easier the better towing truck. The 3.5 is just a high revving, downshifting, motor. I mean the 3.5 can't even make the slightest hill without downshifting to keep up to speed with the cruise set, and this is with a tonneau cover and the truck is empty with no trailer.

I bought my 2014 TRD Off Road, access cab, six speed manual in 2015. I didn't want to wait for the 3rd gen and will never buy a new model vehicle of any make ever again. I like the looks of the 3rd gen but I also like the looks of mine. I could have bought a brand new 2015 at the time for about four grand more but the truck I got was the EXACT configuration I wanted, right down to the SEXY green paint. Mine had less than 12,000 miles on it when I got it and now I'm at about 50,000 just driving it on the weekends.
I've added a small spacer lift and weld on rock sliders but other than that it's stock.
I'll probably have it another ten years.
