Why did you choose a 2nd gen over a 3rd gen?

If I wanted a minivan drive train, I had the choice of...a minivan, or a third gen. 3rd gen = minivan in truck clothes :boink:. Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Although I don’t approve of the drive train in the Gen3 for me, I think it’s a great truck and will provide a lot of years of reliable service. Having said that... you sir are an ass and have no respect for this forum. Go away little man!

Reading comprehension OWNS you. You might want to re-read the thread and see who the fellas that started all this mess were... I'll give you a clue (insecure 2G owners).

No reason to get so defensive boy, shows weakness on your part.

    Come again!

    Like, so many.
3rd Gens have more safety features. You’ll be better protected in the event of an accident. Also, the interior is a big upgrade.

i buy my vehicles like i by my software, time-tested with all the kinks worked out.

but seriously i'm not the most mechanically inclined person, most i've done is taken a motorcycle down to its frame and put it back together. Part of being able to do that was the wealth of information available online for an established make/model. So i had the same line of thinking with the tacoma, so i picked up a 2014 w/ 14,500 miles.

also depreciation played a role, tacoma is much stronger in that respect that most other vehicles but anytime you buy new its a factor

looks wise i actually like the 3rd gen more

Agreed. The technology upgrades are nice and the interior is an improvement. It would have been nice had they offered the 4.0L as an option. Unfortunately we don’t all fit in the same box.

I bought a 2017 TRD Off Road and sold it. Picked up a 2014 TRD Off Road and no regrets on that.
The drivetrain and engine bothered me enough to dump it. Otherwise, it was a great looking truck.

My 2014 is a Blue Ribbon Metallic and would have preferred white, but still love the truck. Everyone has white in my town and I'm pretty unique running around.

TRD Off Road is what I wanted. I like the locking rear diff and not a fan of the hood scoop on the Sports.

Love the low end torque I got back from switch back to the 2nd Gen. The 3rd Gen is powerful, but not where it needs it (my opinion).

1st. I was planning on a Tacoma 4x4 and I was gonna use it. That being said I bought my 2015 DCSB 4x4 OR when the 16's were coming out. I waited to see this new gen in person. I was not a fan of the front end and I was not sure of the new Atkins engine. I had an FJ Cruiser at the time that was going to my son so I new the 4.0 would get me into the boonies and get me home.
I chose the 2015 Taco because I wasn't convinced the Atkins engine would not have issues and I did not need the gadgets in the interior and the nose just looks a little to long for me.

    Impressive!

@ZYBORG It's weird, if I wouldn't have known any better I wouldn't be able to tell if this was a 2nd or 3rd gen. Why do you think that is?

I guess I'm the exception to most here in that I like the look of the 3rd gen. But I also love the look of my 2nd gen and will be sticking with it for the foreseeable future. If I do get a 3rd gen at some point, it will be once their reliability has been proven to be as good as the older ones. When I bought mine the 3rd gens were just about to hit the dealerships but I don't regret my choice at all.

Not taking sides here, but have you owned a third gen? Because if not then you’re doing the exact same thing he is.

Also you butted in and added your two cents. So you started it and brought it upon yourself. Either way who gives a shit, you like your 3rd gen and he likes his 2nd gen. Their both Tacoma’s and that’s all that matters. Let it go guys, let it go.

How so? I own a 2nd gen who WAS once interested in a 3rd gen. I also owned a 1st gen back in the day. I'm basing my experiences off of what I test drove and what my buddy's experiences are....unlike @ZYBORG who just types with zero experiences to the issues and goods of Tacoma ownership.
I'm sure he'll enjoy his new Colorado next year though!
