Why did you choose a 2nd gen over a 3rd gen?

I didn’t buy a 3rd Gen because of price. If I was going to spend $36k it was going to be on a new Ford F150 not a midsize. I also saw the 3rd Gen in person for the first time and I think it is an ugly ass truck.
Over all I’m very happy I did not buy because the new models have had several issues and their reliability ratings are much lower than the previous generation.

I chose white. Only color I buy vehicles in. I’m an avid detailer and white is the easiest color to keep looking clean and shinny. It also is tge easiest and cheapest color to do paint repair on. You can’t hardly see where I’ve used a paint pen to fix little chips.

I chose a TRD Sport. NO RAGRETS! I hate chrome with every part of my soul and the hood skewp is the greatest thing ever.

I did however add heated leather seats (Clazzios) to the truck. I need a long bed and the Limited trim comes with ugly grey leather but does not have a long bed option. I was able to do this upgrade for $550 with self instal. Greatest decision!

I didn’t buy the 3rd gen because I’m not too keen on the front appearance, also after test driving it, it felt too much like a “car” haha

I bought my 2nd Gen before the 3rd Gen was available. Have driven the 3rd Gen, but prefer the 4.0 V-6 to the 3.5. There is nothing wrong with the 3rd Gen per se, just my preference. I'd say drive both, look at your budget and see which one fits your circumstances best and go for it.

No regrets on buying a 3rd gen. the style really grew on me and prefer the look over a 2nd gen.

Super white. Not my first colour choice but that's all they had on the lot and they bave me an offer I could not refuse. No regrets on the colour. Looks sick with black accessories.

Got a TRD sport. Regret that, wish I had the locker but in Canada you don't have much for options. Could only get an extended cab in an offroad model and wanted a DCLB.

    Hope those helps!

    I purchased a 2015 in July of 2017..
I bought a base model extended cab in white, with 16k miles, with a stick, 4x4, and 4cyl.
    I love it..

I chose this one over a new one for a few reasons..
    1. The price.. i paid 17K dollars for it..
    2. The features.. I hate all the new electronics, and wanted something basic..
    3. truck cycle.. The 15 was the last year of the 2nd gen, so i figured they would have all the bugs worked out by then..
    4. Reliability.. the 2nd gen is a proven reliable vehicle.. (Not saying the 3rd gen isn't but they have had some pretty substantial transmission and engine control issues with it already)
    5. Looks.. I know this changes based on personal taste, but the 15 looks like a truck.. though arguably not as good looking as the 1st generation..
    6. I wanted a stick shift, which are really hard to find where i live.

Ultimately i would buy the exact truck i got again..
There are two features i wish i got, like cruise control, and intermittent wipers..
and one feature i hate is the fold down passengers seat.. (ill eventually swap in a trd leather interior)
But i love the basic function of it, and ultimately at 17k i mean it's a tacoma...

Before you buy a 2018, I read Toyota recommends do not lift the 2018 because of all the sensors on it. So if you want to do a lot of mods go for 2017 or it will be one electronic headache after another.
