This is about 5000 to 5500lbs when we're loaded and I pull it in the Sierra. Tows it at the speed limit....just can't be afraid to make it work

For starters the kid working at the discount tire place making $12/hr knows nothing. Secondly most chain places like that have a policy to not mount any tire on any car that is not the OEM size.

This. As soon as you deviate from stock size they lose their shit half the time.

New gen 2 owner here. Owned a 84, an 86, and a 97 Toyota pickup. I recently purchased a 07 DCSB Off Road with the 4.0 V6. I received a 2017 Tacoma DCSB Off Road as a loaner until my recall gets taken care of. I pulled a 6x10 trailer with my Suzuki Kingquad today and was very unimpressed with it's towing ability. The 4.0 seems like it tows a lot better than the under powered 3.5. The 3.5 is always shifting and revving just to tow a light load. The 4.0 gets better towing mileage also. I think Toyota took a stap backwards with the 3rd generation Tacoma powerwise. I do like the stereo, sounds great for stock.

2nd gen time warps me back to 2005. It's so dated.

For me came down to price. I wanted a 4wd under 45k miles an under 30k price tall order to find in a Toyota. But I came across a 16 AC 4cyl 5speed 4wd an my now 15 sport dcsb. Went with the V6 an more options so that was a no brainer for me.

Well, this was the manager and assistant manager. The manager has been with the company 12 years.

And it wasn’t because of OEM size. I’ve switched wheel sizes there plenty over the years.

And that doesn’t explain why the dealer wouldn’t do it either.

All I know is my 08 dbcb is now wearing 2017' 16" OR wheels without any issues. So maybe this is just a Gen 3 only issue?

    Very true.
Although, I personally appreciate the simplicity of my 2nd gen.

That being said, there was no 3rd gens on the lot when I got my truck in 2014.

OME 2.5 886 Dakkar suspension, ARE shell, with Thule bars and cargo rack,
I was in the exact same boat. New platform = new problems. And yes that front end reminds me of a baby dodge ram. Toyota dealer is after me big time offering lower payments (of course) but I've put an ARE shell Yakaima rack w/cargo basket and OME 2.5 upgrade suspension and I've ordered Rocky Road sliders. The dealer has a tricked out 2018 but it's going for close to 50K and the "sliders" have those stupid welded on foot loops hanging down in a perfect place to get you hung up on rocks. Buy one new to build it up to trade in and have to rebuild just isn't how I want to go. All that aside I'm sure the 2018's are really nice, and I have wondered if myshell (with rack/basket) would fit a 3rd gen bed, but even that won't move me. The one thing I've always liked about Tacomas is a lack of bells and whistles. My employers always has tricked out new Subarus for road trips and they drive me nuts till I get as many sensors turned off as possible.

Cus there wasnt the 3rd gen out in 2013....

Either way i vote buy new. The extra cost is minimal and the 2018s will have most of the kinks worked out.

That stated i love my 2013, but damn id love to have the quite ride and extra mpgs of the 3rd gen (my buddy has a DCLB 3rd gen TRD OR 4x4 and its sexy to drive, dad has a DCSB TRD OR prerunner and its nice to drive as well)

Balls. The Gen3 doesn’t have any.
Don’t get me wrong... it goes really fast and gets better fuel mileage. If it was just mall crawler and daily driver... that would be fine. The Gen2 will pull at lot harder.

Got a 2015 that had some very low mileage (16085 purchased), extremely clean, and it was a CPO with some added dealer perks for a decent price. Personal preference to the front-end of the truck as well:D.

No, trying to figure out wth he is talking about. I’ve owned both. You couldn’t pay me to get back in a 2nd gen. I’ve had a 1980 , a 1st gen, a 2nd gen and now a 3rd gen. The 2nd gen was by far my least favorite.
