I'm torn on lowering trucks. I have owned 4 Jeeps and used to be into the off roading thing, but I got out of it because it cost too much and none of the places I went were very legal. It's at least one to two hours to get to an off road park here and there is a possibility that I might break something....

Anyway, I am still kinda in that off road mentality. I am only used to lifting things, but some lowered trucks with nice wheels and tires look really good to me. So I'm torn on what to do to mine.

I would just never lower my truck because it wouldn't stay nice or working for long. There are a lot of potholes and bumps where I'm from and a lot of times when I'm going to go off of paved roads (not what this forum would consider "offroading" but technically yes, I guess). But I do like the look of street trucks, with the big rims, low pros, and better handling in the turns. It just wouldn't work for me where I'm from.

Someone that is into show trucks.

Or someone that likes to be stopped by the PoPo.

Its an old farts prerogative to poke fun. ;)

In Maryland the police just seem to like to pull over the lowered flashy trucks. I see it all the time.

BTW there is nothing wrong with a lowered truck.

I perfer my stock truck and I bought it as my DD and to go to the garden center. So far after 15 months of ownership I find the Toyota 4 cyl 2WD up to any task that I ask it to do. It performed like a champ last winter with crappy stock tires.

I bought my first Toyota pickup 30 years ago, a '79. It was the very first SR5. 2.2R engine, a 5 speed and a 7 foot bed. Drove various Toyota trucks since then. When I went to buy my current 2009 I went directly to the 5 lug access cab with the automatic (as an old fart I didn't want to shift anymore).

I drive 25,000 miles per year and spent a lot of time in the left seat so comfort and MPG were major factors. The six lug is quite a bit stiffer than the 5 lug. Much of my driving is interstate now and how the truck rode and handled at 70-80 was a major concern. I replaced the stock 215s with 235-70-15s and the mushiness is gone.

I pull a 16' skiff so 3,500 lbs towing capacity is plenty w/o a 6. I spend very little time slogging through the mud any more so 2wd was fine. The 5 lug actually does fine off road so long as you respect its limitations and keep it out of the water. When it does get stuck the Auto LSD is available to get you out and the Auto LSD works great on slippery boat ramps.

The ride height makes it very easy to get in and out of the vehicle and makes it possible for me to reach over the side of the bed and grab anything in the bed including pavers. I can't do that in the 6 lug. It has hauled 896 pounds to the dump and I can testify to how well the traction control works on slippery surfaces.

The transmission fluid, coolant and spark plugs all have a rated life of 100,000 miles. The 2.7 engine has a repuation for being bullet proof and is much less tempermental than the 4.0 six. I change the oil every 3500 miles and expect to keep this truck until I get my new 2019.

I bought my 5 lugger b/c my 6 lugger has become addicted to the gas pump. I dont really like the look of the 5 lugs but they get hella good gas milage. I have been DD'n it for the last year and LOVE not stopping at the pump ever other day. :D

I bought a 5 lug because my 94 xtracab V6 4x4 fuel economy is measured in gallons per mile... and because Toyota dropped the manual transmission option on the 2011 Prerunner.

was looking for a smaller engine, but also I wanted a truck again. day by day I'm learning to like it, I was semi happy when I got it (mainly because of the access doors). Will see by the end of this yr. if I want to keep it though.

Fuel economy and value. The 2.7L is pretty strong, about the same horsepower wise as V6's 10 years ago yet it gets great mileage. I used to own a 4wd, V8 Silverado, but I rarely tow over 1500 lbs anymore and the bed has nearly the same capacity. I also found I rarely used 4WD and it's not worth the fuel economy and maintence upkeep of the added transfer case, front driveshaft, front diff, and CV's.

Are you sure they V6's and V8's knew that you were racing them? Not knocking your truck but no way its going to beat the exact same truck with a V6

I bought mine because i totalled my 2000 silverado,,i wanted pmts 200.00 or lower a month, liked the styling of the 5lugger,,don't like the dinky stock tires, 235's will happen when oem tires are worn out..

the 2.7 engine is only .1 smaller then my 89 gmc s15 v6 2.8 engine and is one hell of good engine.,,reg cab because i travel alone,,wife drives me nuts riding with her..

manual tranny for overall cost at purchase was way less.. best mileage on it to date has been 27mpg

value and gas mileage when I bought it. Easier to trade in a Tundra than it would have been to see an ex drive it. Gandpas 79 toyota truck had over 300 thousand on it when he sold it. Drove it like a 1/2 ton everyday.

With my budget, my intended usage & my priorities there really was not much other choice.

It blows me away how many SUVs, AWDs, 4x4s and even 6-lug 4x2s, w/ 50 000+ miles, still cost a whole lot more than my 5-lug cost, brand new! And they'd mostly be more awkward for my cargo and get significantly worse gas mileage.
