Why did you pick your Tacoma over another choice?

    I know very little.
I’m not a truck guy and in a tight spot at work (I work for an ad agency that works for Toyota but a newbie).

I’ve been assigned the task of explaining all the reasons why Tacoma owners picked a Tacoma over other choices — especially in “truck countries” like Texas, and OK — although I'm thinking there isn't much difference. As a New Yorker, don’t want to mess this up.

I’m responsible for the real reasons real people pick Tacoma and not the reasons corporate people think. I've got to share what I learned in a meeting and look like I know what I'm talking about. So I figured why not ask.

(Mods) Is this kind of think O.K. to ask here or is it not cool? Just trying to be smart, you know? Apologies if this is out of line. I asked the same of Tundra owners and they were awesome helping out. Thx all!

I got mine (partially) because it WASN'T a Ford or GM product. Those are SO middle-aged!

I am a bit disappointed in it technologically, though. My '85 Corolla GT-S was ahead of it in a few ways.

Audi should make a truck, glad you brought that up.

I picked Tacoma because of all the mid size trucks it has the best long term reliability and also the best looks.
I was coming from a F-150 and wanted something smaller for easier daily driving but could still haul tools and materials.

Only midsize truck that I felt was worth buying. It has great looks, capabilities and the resale value is the best. I wasn't ready to spend 55-60 on fullsize GM yet. First toyota I have ever owned and I'm glad that I purchased it.

I got mine for the reason that I think most people get Toyota's. Long term reliability. I also happen to think that the Tacoma is the best looking mid-sized truck.

I came from an F150 and no longer needed a full size.

Reliability. Having had a 2001 Tundra who is still going at 350k miles on original engine , not transmission. 2012 Corolla at 200k miles which i neglect (oil change every 10k miles... not even synthetic. just brake and tire changes) is still running problem free. Hoping to get 200k problem free from my Tacoma now too..... (already having a transmission issue though... BUT it still drives normal after it gets into gear and its rare....)

So shiii reading my own post.. now its Reliability and loyalty at this point.

BLUF: Top, top priority is reliability. I don't care about power, solid axles, or any of that crap. I just don't want to be left stranded again.

I've always been a midsize truck guy, last two trucks before turning to Tacoma were S10s. Now, I'm burned on fixing broken things on Chevys. You could set a watch to a broken water pump or A/C compressor on those.
I wanted something with a better rate of reliability so I bought a Tacoma. My first was a '13 TRD Sport in MGM, bought in Dec of '14 with barely 19k on the clock. I sold it last year with 107k absolutely trouble-free miles. I'm looking forward to getting 10 years out of this 2020 Pro.

Also live in deep BIG TRUCK country here in Oklahoma City. Yet to see a Tacoma on the side of the road, plenty of 5-foot-tall Silverados and Rams, though.

As a typical home owner, a truck is needed for many weekend projects around the house as well as I do enjoy the outdoors. The rest of the week, I want a vehicle that is as comfortable and easy to maneuver as a car and fits in places that were designed for cars, not many places are designed for full size trucks.

Resale and reliability. Once I started hearing about some of these trucks going over 500k miles and even 1 million miles, they had my attention. The Tacoma is the cream of the crop of midsize trucks. Doesn't matter what trim level either.

I would say it is kinda the perfect multi tool for your average person. Not as large or as much power as full size but will be great for the average homeowner who does a lot of diy and general yard/home maintenance. Also great for hauling the little bass boat. Also for reliability nothing better then driving a vehicle and not having to worry about a ton of issues. Then as far as driving has mileage and easier to drive in the city or tight areas. Maintains value better then most. Reliable in New England winters. Not one driving factor that made it my choice more or less a lot of small things that really fit the build for me.

I got mine because I bought my 1st Tacoma back in the 90's and had always loved them growing up and now since my 1st 1 in the 90's it's been super reliable and holds its value better than other brands.i live in texas. I personally dont like fords and have had a Chevy s10 and it was always something or another. Now I just got the 2020 and looking forward to it being reliable like my other 1's before it. If I was going to say anything negative Toyota isnt usually about getting everything comfort creature stuff like some others. Like the 2020 has driver power seat but passenger doesnt,Why?

I totally agree. Think of how many unhappily married, 52yr-old, balding men would benefit from the additional cargo space in their new Audi truck, when they are moving outta their house to be with Krissy the baby-sitter?
