For me, choosing a Toyota pickup, was due to my past experience with the truck. This is my fourth Toyota pickup.

The bigger issue here is, if your superiors at Toyota have you Working on this project, then the executives at Toyota have totally lost their connection with their customer base. Leadership is at a total loss to what consumers are looking for in their products.

When big business places profits over its customers, it’s individuals like yourself who are asked to go out and ask why. If a corporation has to ask why, you have problems as a company.

What this boils down to is listen to your customers.

Works for an ad agency. Probably trying to come up with marketing to sell to Toyota.

    OME and worth every penny.
    I needed a reliable small 4WD truck.
    Wish they still made them.

    1. Reliable
    2. Easy to fix
    3. maneuverability
    4. Mpg/cheap parts/cost to own

Next truck will definitely be 4x4 new Toyota tacoma. But I'll ditch toyota as soon as I can't fix major stuff myself, and things get too complicated with computers and stupid engineering. And it's getting too big.

Not trying to tell you how to do your job, but shouldn't you be asking this in a survey format with multiple focused questions? Otherwise you will get a thousand different reasons. And this way, you will impress your superiors with your research during your meeting.

Idk how to make a survey, but I believe you can add it to the thread.

Perceived reliability and good looks. I had a new 1999 Tacoma ($14,000) that I only put 3 sets of front brake pads and one oxygen sensor in 125,000 miles. I bought a new 2009 Suzuki Equator next. It was cheap ($18.000). It was better looking than the 2009 Tacoma. I abused it and beat it for 75,000 miles. The fan belt would squeak for a few seconds every cold or damp start-up for the last 50,000 miles. I never fixed it. I retired and bought a new and good looking 2016 Tacoma (37,000+).

Better off doing a multi-question survey in Google Docs or something.

I've never been a truck person myself either but after buying a house, I quickly learned I needed something to haul all of the weekend projects my wife had in store for me. I started researching mid-size trucks because, realistically, most people don't need a full size truck unless you work in a field requiring heavy duty loads. So, as most everyone else has said, its the reliability and resale value that really sold me. It's comfortable enough to take on road trips and there are a ton of aftermarket parts to choose from to really personalize it and make it your own.

When I was looking at trucks I came across this site and saw so many awesome trucks! Right then I wanted to live the Taco Lifestyle and the rest was history.

Is this an academic exercise? Surely Toyota (and possibly your ad agency) has a wealth of information on this subject. I'm not sure what value a forum thread with such an open ended question is going to have to your ad agency or Toyota.

    this and that...
i left a wise ass answer earlier, but the real truth is simply because im a toyota enthusiast. this is my 3rd new tacoma i bought, and just within the last 10 years theres more to the story. ill leave a list just from the past decade of all the new toyotas i purchased.

    2019 tacoma sport
    2019 sequoia sport
    2018 corolla se premium
    2014 scion xb
    2013 tacoma trd or
    2013 4runner sr5 premium
    2013 rav4 limited

as you can see, i had my fair share of dealer interaction, and real world experience with toyotas fleet. all of em were fun vehicles in one aspect or another, but truth be told the tacomas are always the most enjoyable; the 4runner is very well up there though.

    top 4 reasons for me
    1:reliability
2: was the best offroad capable truck at the time / great snow capabilities
3:size, I came from a 2005 dodge dakota and this was close but this time around I went with a 6ft bed, not a wheelbarrow.
4: easy to customize, for my previous truck I had to fabricate everything

Size, reliability, and overall looks. I was always a full size truck person, usually had a Ram 1500 then went to a commuter friendly Accord for awhile.

Realized there was too many things I needed a truck for now and didn’t want to get back to a full size. Tacoma is the perfect size for what I need and I can keep it a lot longer without having to worry so much about things breaking.
